Re: Sa unpaid breaks
Royal Mail has no legal obligation to facilitate paid rest periods. Very few employers actually give their staff a paid break in reality. That includes overtime and normal contracted hours.
An SA duty is outside and runs alongside your normal contract of employment with its express and implied terms. That contract has paid breaks through collective bargaining between the CWU and Royal Mail.
Even though you have a break that is paid during normal contracted hours, No agreement has been reached on paid SA attendance, only rest periods through collective bargaining.

Re: Sa unpaid breaks
It does on Sunday.
Why are there still SA contracts available when part time staff can't get increases in their contracted hours?

Re: Sa unpaid breaks
I think the point Clash is making is if an office has hours available and these hours are consistent why aren't they used to upgrade part-time contracts rather than (over) fill the pockets of a few usually full-time members of staff.
Obviously not always the case or that straightforward ibut enough of an issue to be an issue.
It's a common union rep dilemma, help the needy or help the greedy.
Too often it's the latter.

Needy or greedy you have to remember that reps represent everyone who is a member and sometimes not and also there is an agreement that states a percentage of hours have to be offered as sa in an office and as usual ot rules open to everyone and I totally agree with u about if hours are available people who want it should have there hours made up but that’s down to the union to fight your corner

Which agreement would that be? What is the percentage?broughts wrote: ↑23 Jul 2022, 12:30Needy or greedy you have to remember that reps represent everyone who is a member and sometimes not and also there is an agreement that states a percentage of hours have to be offered as sa in an office and as usual ot rules open to everyone and I totally agree with u about if hours are available people who want it should have there hours made up but that’s down to the union to fight your corner
SA is allocated by seniority in my office. I would guess that less than 5% is covered by part time staff.
The 4 Pillars agreement had a commitment to focus on improving part time contracts. How do you do that if the available hours are being offered to full time staff as SA?
In general the reps focus on the part timers after they have focussed on the full timers.
How many reps are part timers?

Re: Sa unpaid breaks
That’s just the prat time full battle that has always been I was once part time so know how u feel and that was 32 years ago and nothing changes or gets better and perhaps your office the sa is allocated on seniority because that’s the only overiding factor that can be used in my office part timers with seniority get a fair share I would put in a grievance or take it higher and think it’s in the way forward agreeement

Re: Sa unpaid breaks
We have no SA whatsoever in my office. Bugger all. Haven't had any since full timers stopped getting it for doing 5 second deliveries instead of 4 on their Saturday rest day week when second delivery was abolished..... probably around 2004/2005.

Re: Sa unpaid breaks
It isn't in The Way Forward.
There is no agreement that stipulates a certain amount of SA has to be offered in a DO.
I had a conversation with an Area Rep who said you have to keep an overtime package available for the troops.
Who exactly is paying for that overtime package? The people who can least afford it. The people who cannot get improved contracts because of the "overtime package."
What exactly are the fundamental principles of trade unionism?
In my opinion to provide employment opportunities and lift people out of poverty. Scheduled Attendance fails on both counts. It is anti trade unionism.
It takes from the have-nots and gives to the haves.
If Simon announced tomorrow that 4 weeks notice was being given to all SA holders I would be his loudest cheerleader.
Put in a grievance? Take it higher? LMFAO.

Unfortunately the union are behind the ball with lots of things but I guess we can’t always like everything they do I know without them it would be even worse
