Sent to a different DO - rules?

My colleague has been told that he has got to report to a different DO on Monday for the week.

This DO is closer to his home anyway so that isn't a problem.

What is the issue is that he's been put on to a duty which also includes an afternoon collection.

His normal duty allows him to finish at 2pm but this will force him to work until 5.30pm which he isn't happy about.

He knows the collection so that isn't any way of getting out of it.

Can anyone advise me of his rights?

Sorry. The collection is part of the duty he's being expected to cover at the other DO.

If he's using his own car to get there then he's probably not insured for " business use".
The commuting aspect of his insurance policy will only cover his travel to one place of work, not numerous.
He needs to arrange to turn up at his home D.O. at his start time, have transport arranged to take him to the other office & finish early enough so that he can be driven or drive back in a company vehicle to his home D.O. and finish on time. This may mean he can't complete the collection or , if he wants it, he can claim OT for it.
Do this once & they won't ask him again.

His regular hours are 7 till 2

They're telling him to work 10.30 to 5.30

What a lot of people do not realise is on your private car insurance policy it states on most that you are insured to commute to one same place of work. Not a different office so if you have a claim you will not be insured. Your car isn’t covered at another office or you travelling to it. I know this as I have had first hand experience with my insurer.

So why did you feel the need to comment then, adding nothing to the discussion. Perhaps the OP
is just trying to help a colleague not get screwed over, you know in a workplace collective sort of help thing.
