Private use of RM van

An employee from a different D.O. uses RM van to drop his kids off at school. I don't know if he has permission or not begs the question of ... how common this is or whether it is allowed to happen by turning a blind eye.

I should imagine that if someone was involved in a RTC with the van filled with their weekly shopping then they might find themselves uninsured.

About 15yrs ago, I asked our dim at the time, if I could use the van to help move house. He said no due to insurance and other issues, which was long shot at the time. A couple of yrs back one of our lads was running late for the school run, decided to pick his daughter up from school using the van, drove back to the office with her in the van and got caught by our dim. He got his balls kicked pretty hard.

Down to one car in the family and have been taking work van home for months, there are forms you can fill out. Would avoid any trips aside from to and from work though.

The overnight retention policy which are the forms you sign is clear that it's to and from work only.

We had one guy sacked for moving furniture as a favour once. Not Royal Mail use - no insurance.

Only insured for work use and employees only. The only exception is van retention, and that's only from home to work and vice versa.

The most instantly recognised vans in the country and this pr1ck uses it for a school run. You really could not make up what some idiots in this company do but then do nothing but moan about the job.

Do they know who is driving every private car that they pass when performing this employment suicide? It could be the IB, a senior manager, a DOM from another office, an employee from another office who would take delight in grassing them up the next morning, the list goes on.

We had a postie put on a 2 year serious for going off route to his favourite bakery in the next village and being trapped by the van trimble!!

The guy is risking his job & driving license as YOU ARE NOT INSURED. You cant have non employees in the van. You cant even give lifts to employees when they are not working.

Dom cant & wont authorise it as it would be his job on the line too. Everyone turns a blind eye.

Ive seen a few vans with shopping or kids in them. I also turn a blind eye as its not something i want to witness. However if i know the driver i'll discretely let them know of the consequences if something happens. Up to them what they do after that.

British Gas used to have all this carry on going on with their vans, until they decided to recall them all to the depot in Fareham every night (hampshire region)

There was a total ragequit-fest by greedy types who had been at it for years using the vans for private business, it was a great clear out of the real self entitled dregs.

RM should follow suit, no exceptions.

There you go....you have seen them but they have not seen you.....you simply do NOT know who is driving past you. Anyone doing this deserves to be sacked if they're caught, employment suicide.

Royal Mail act as their own insurer as they are a large user. Whether this covers the vehicle being used unauthorised is debatable, but there are Tax implications if vehicle is used for private use other than to and from place of work and home. I would imagine any mishap whilst unauthorised would lead to dismal, as did happen to a former colleague of mine
