RMCtv : I genuinely do not know what to say about this
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: RMCtv : I genuinely do not know what to say about this
Now I am worried.
Is Royal Mail so apathetic about their managers they don't look for basic leadership capabilities when assessing them? Or, is it that Leadership is such an alien concept they had to bring someone in from outside.
Something this basic is taught in the forces in basic training and is reinforced throughout your career from top to bottom.
500 years and they still can't get the basics right.

Look? They don't pick prospective officers out of the workforce. Almost every line manager I've encountered has the same story: a few years at most as OPG then jumped when a management position became available. Unfortunately the cream of this crop tend to be the laziest amongst us. If being a manager carried with it the kind of responsibility for life and limb, and the security of the nation they wouldn't go for it.TrueBlueTerrier wrote: ↑08 Jul 2022, 08:20Is Royal Mail so apathetic about their managers they don't look for basic leadership capabilities when assessing them?
In terms of seniority and accrued responsibility, Postman Higher Grade was a better fit.
The machine stops.

Back when PHGs existed, typically how many managers were there in a given office? Did the PHGs effectively act as "Team Leaders"?

Going back about 22 years when we still had a night shift doing IPS whichever PHG was on duty was in charge, they got an allowance, think it was called leadership allowance, probably still do, at the same time the do had 3 managers and 3 phgs, it got cut down to 2 managers about 10 years ago as they didn't need 3, I think that was about the time when 1 of the phgs began to be classed as Dom support.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑10 Jul 2022, 23:55Back when PHGs existed, typically how many managers were there in a given office? Oh yeah think that was also about the time when the workplace coach role reared its ugly head.
