Re: Operational needs
Might be a really silly suggestion but perhaps if they trained someone else up on the rural that might be a starting point

If the DO has a staff shortage, maybe they can't release anyone to learn the routeted_e_bear wrote: ↑02 Jul 2022, 16:37Might be a really silly suggestion but perhaps if they trained someone else up on the rural that might be a starting point![]()

So it's been vacant for 4 years?
Do they use moving you to facilitate lapsing?

It takes 2-3 days to learn the basics of a rural, you won't know it all by then but enough to make a decent fist of it.
It's not a 6 months course with a test at the end.

Re: Operational needs
There is a duty holder on this rural but I came off it at the last resign( 4yrs ago) and he picked it.but usually I have to do his day off or this time his holiday.its just laziness on managment not to train people.its that bad the rural don't even have a cover duty for there days off.

Re: Operational needs
Sounds ideal, but you'll soon discover that others will have made an even stronger push to NEVER be moved off any part of the indoor or outdoor parts of the job as 'that's their right'.

Re: Operational needs
I work in a MC and 2 of my colleagues signed for Duties on Letters 12 years ago and due to these duties being kept for those who cannot stand up or move much at all neither of them have actually done their duty in that time. So operational needs can be used in perpetuity by the looks of itpostieblueshirt wrote: ↑02 Jul 2022, 16:26Just wondering how many times can this be used to move me from my signed duty.ive been moved 3 times this week to do rural and told I'm moved all of next week also.any advice would be handy.

Re: Operational needs
In a MC provided there's no H&S issues or training issues you can be moved to any section at any time for any length of time. Probably the most common example is all those on the flats and letters who aren't DDAs getting sent over to the packets and Tracked when the letters and flats run low on workdenhamhoop wrote: ↑03 Jul 2022, 07:54I work in a MC and 2 of my colleagues signed for Duties on Letters 12 years ago and due to these duties being kept for those who cannot stand up or move much at all neither of them have actually done their duty in that time. Re: Operational needs
It's not really the same in Delivery Offices and Mailcentres.
Obviously if you run out of work on your assigned task or there is a shortage elsewhere in a mailcentre you're going to be moved where the work is.
That's more live resourcing than operational needs.
In a DO you're not being moved off your assigned task because there's no work, you're being moved because they want someone else to do it and you to do something else. Since we're all on the same grade and pay that is something that has to be justifiable.
You should always question the genuine business requirement behind that, especially if the office has had ample opportunity to train someone else but has chosen not to.
