Playing into their hands?

This week our depot has really cracked down on certain behaviours... Anyone arriving over 5 minutes late for their shift gets a dressing down in a managers office, anyone back at the depot over 40 minutes from the end time is given extra work (prepping, D2Ds, LATs etc,) and those walkers that get the driver to drop them at the bus stop/ station/ home so they don't have to go back to the depot are being made to sign back in after their shift.

Yes, there are many examples of RM taking advantage of the opposite of these behaviours (ghost overtime,) but if we are threatening to strike surely we have to go along with it?!

Yesterday we got back to the depot at 1, and were made to take LATs until our time. When we arrived there were at least 8 posties sitting in their vans in the car park waiting for it to be "too late" to be sent back out. Isn't that what they want?! To be able to say "we were paying these 4 people 3 hours each to take unstaffed walks out, but PDA data shows that 8 people did nothing for 2 hours of the day so they could go home as early as possible, ergo we wasted money"? If they want staff to work "to rule" then do so, and as pedantically as possible. People throwing their toys out of the pram because they always sprint about doorstepping to get home before 12 aren't helping the image of the hard working postie we surely want to give

The only way to solve it is clocking in and out , and pay for the hours worked and nobody would come back early , simples.

I agree with you. You see some VERY strange behaviour in RM. It's a pschoanalysts wet dream. I'm sure there's many varied reasons for some people acting like total assholes?

You have to bear in mind that a lot of these assholes have never worked anywhere else since they left school. They've got so used to all the petty points scoring & back stabbing that they probably wouldn't be able to change if you told then to.

One guy that really worries me spends all morning chuckling to himself I'm sure it's some sign of mental illness, but after ANYTHING he says he has to have a chuckle, he sounds like Sid James FFS. (He's not a particularly cheerfull person but he is bloody infuriating)!

Industrial relations between the Royal Mail and Unite (the managers union) has hit a sour note as many of them have voted for strike action. So you can imagine whats happening here.


Senior managers possibly coming in giving your managers a hard time. So managers start giving us a hard time. That might be the case if previously your managers were allowed to leave early and now because they can't leave early, they are stopping posties from leaving early??

I'm only assuming of course. This used to happen in our DO when a Senior bod comes in trying to kick ar$e

Very much this, we have a "new manager" stalking about and the linos are petrified of her... DOM/COM conspicuous by his absence.
Had a lino call me at 6pm begging me to work my rest day for an extra 4 hours pay as someone did their ankle on their walk and it needed covering... I said no

Unbelievably we have a woman at our office who does exactly the same!

They seem to now answer to a remote senior managers, who appear to have the ultimate power, I assume it's these forcing them to clear the Tracked etc each day even though Simon suggests that's not company policy.

As far as I was aware all linos have been promoted to COMS and all DOMS have been demoted ( well basically ) to COMS
