Ill health retirement

Have had a chat with my dom, due to my absence, awaiting operation, we both agree it would be in both parties interest if I finished on I’ll health retirement, he is going to get in touch with oh explaining due to my age 60 , and there being no other work suitable for me to do, that I should finish, do occupational health have final say, ie try to make you stay, thanks for any advice.

All depends on the your recovery and wether you will be able to do the same job role after operation ,OH will ask for Doctors notes and advise RM.

It’s not a case of if I can do the job after operation, there is an 18 month waiting list

OH will get in touch with your consultant and GP to confirm your situation. If that's ok I imagine you'll be offered IHR.

Just an update, got offered Ihr ,oh interview last Monday signed forms Saturday,last day Sunday will get money this Friday,seemed to get rushed through not to get the pay rise lump sum this week, never mind glad to be out after 32 years.

Coming upto 60, arthritis in my feet, consultant told me to look for another job, would i get ihr? and if so what sort of pay off would i get, 31 years service on delivery

I've been on sick for 7 months.In my last chat with manager he mentioned IRH telling me its an option.I told him i want to go back.Was he just testing my reaction .As after seeing the latest updates ,I don't think I want to go back.Been there 8yrs.

I was only off just over 3 months between going sick and paid off,I thought I might get a few more months on sick, think they just want to get rid of old timers before they cost them too much , be 60 November, good luck to everyone, thanks for replies.

YOU HAVE TO GO SICK. SHOW YOU CAN NO LONGER WORK. THEY WONT JUST PICK YOU AND SAY YOU CAN LEAVE ON IHR. GO LONG TERM SICK AND SHOW YOU'VE DONE ALL YOU CAN

You don't have to go on long term sick. If a consultant states you are not fit to do the job and RM can't find you any suitable work then it's likely you are eligible for IHR. Royal Mail don't want you sitting on the sick if there's no chance you're going to be fit for work n the long term. It's way cheaper to IHR early.

Length of service doesn't count for IHR. For a full timer it's about £21K total.
