IPS nobody knows how to do it anymore

In the last few years all the new starters haven't been trained to do IPS and just throw off Walk sorted,
and a lot of the old guard have left who have been at RM for 20+ years due to the unachievable workloads.
So now the delivery office now only has about 4 people who can actually
do the IPS to a reasonable speed

You just need to train more full time staff to do your IPS.
New starts are usually on part time contracts. They normally shouldn't even be in the building when the IPS takes place.

I've been there since September, part time contract. I get asked to come in early most mornings, and the past few weeks I've been made to do IPS with 2 other P/Ters while the older, full timers clear their frames and run off moaning about it being unfinished. Last 3 days I've also been asked to prep absorption as well as my own walk, not leaving the depot til 10-10.30 when the full timers are out by 8.30.

Edit: also the IPS is in a baffling order. It's neither numerical nor alphabetical, so even when the mail is for a route I know, it takes time to find it on the frame as it makes no sense at all. The usual people who do it are all on the sick or taking holiday, and the linos dare not ask the F/Ters who never go near it

Everyone calls it IPS it is not Walk Sorting that is what it is a skill sadly lost in the midst of our glorious mechanisation till the masts in the area go down. We on the other hand knew what streets were next to the other streets.

It's a bit worrying if you've been here over 6 months and haven't realised the frames are set up in the order the walks are usually delivered not just some random order to confuse newbies!

In our office all the FT's and any PT's asked to start early have to complete the IPS before they can start banding up their mail/loading their vans/HCT's.

I have done ips for nearly 40 years and the revision has caused the problem in our office with nearly every road split between multiple duties so you have to go by postcode with so much new build its a farce.

Doesnt he mean the walk sort frame, not the delivery frame? His office could have the pigeon holes set up differently from yours. At ours its in numerical order.

We've people in our office who have been here 10 years and have never sorted a letter, it's the same 20+ year guys who do it, we struggle when a few are off at the same time.

I meant the IPS frame. The walks are not in the order the frames are arranged, nor arranged by walk number or alphabetically.

And at least three of the walks themselves had a load of unnecessary dead walking added in the revision (loop 1 takes you down one side of road A, if you do it in frame order you walk back to the van, loop 2 is road B, before driving off, then loop 4 or 5 is back to road A for the other side... They've been "looking into it" since it happened)

one part ghost overtime (at least 30 minutes)
one part "staunch refusal to do anything other than prep your own walk"
Half a part "run off when you think you're ready, regardless of status of sorting"
