Anyone looking for a new job?
Well I'm certainly open to the idea. Just wanted to get ideas of similar work anyone on here might have experience of and the pros and cons of other similar jobs. Personally I need to finish by 3pm ideally Monday to Friday but can do Saturdays. Nothing self employed though.

You will be better off self employed. Line your own pockets, not your employers.

Re: Anyone looking for a new job?
There’s a job a 10 minute walk from me which I’ve been considering, certainly if Sunday working does come in.
It’s 6am to 11am, 5 days a week Monday to Friday. Works out just £40 a week less (I’m on a 4 day contract) but with me saving on fuel/wear + tear as I currently have a 10 mile round trip in the car it almost evens out. It’s secure work and like at RM for most of the time you are your own boss. They usually leave 10 mins early and get a 20 minute paid break so it’s just 4.5 hours a day.
I do like working for RM (yeah I know, I must be mad) but if significantly later finishes, Sunday working etc comes in I’m off.

Re: Anyone looking for a new job?
Try signing up to a job site/ agency to get job alerts.
Some companies are offering more flexible hours for childcare/ school run. Work from home, trialling four day weeks and have already paid staff a pay rise/ lump sum bonus to help with cost of living.
Its worth looking now as Royal Mail wants to become more like Amazon in the way it treats their staff so it’s only going to get worse.

Re: Anyone looking for a new job?
I've always been indifferent to the job and find it easy to disassociate from it.
Probably won't leave unless it's VR.

I'd like to be a Postie, but just do a 3 or 4 day week. Not sure it's possible though. Not in my depot anyway.

Re: Anyone looking for a new job?
I know a few on 4 and 3 day contracts. But they don't seem to pop up anymore. Mine technically was meant to be 24 hours over 4 days but automatically started as 5.
I'm turning purple!

Re: Anyone looking for a new job?
I've worked a few different jobs and I don't think there is anything really similar to RM.kevbo wrote: ↑17 Jun 2022, 19:43Well I'm certainly open to the idea. There are the self employed parcel delivery jobs, which you have ruled out, and to be fair look like a nightmare. I know a few who have done them before RM and wouldn't return. I have seen the odd job which is like these but employed, don't think the pay compares to RM but it is an option.
Sometimes a car part delivery job pops up, again I don't think the pay is there but could be a much simpler job.
I don't see any of these being a finish before 3pm job. Thats the main thing stopping me from rushing out the door. It's nice being able to pick the kids up from school. But now it is more than likely that'll go I'm keener to move asap.

Think there are quite a lot in the same position me included. Like you say not much out there with similar hours so may be a case of trying to cling on to current hours with child care commitments.Foxel wrote: ↑18 Jun 2022, 17:44I've worked a few different jobs and I don't think there is anything really similar to RM.kevbo wrote: ↑17 Jun 2022, 19:43Well I'm certainly open to the idea. Re: Anyone looking for a new job?
Nope.
Only way I'll leave is if it is via IHR or redundancy. Having long term health issues, means getting a new job would be difficult.

Regarding these rumoured finishing times.
Anybody venture a guess at just how much later they will be?

Re: Anyone looking for a new job?
And the knock on effect of CSP hours. If posties are going to be out delivering until 8pm, then how will any returned parcels get booked in same day if CSP shuts at 7?
