Several years ago when I was at Portsmouth Mail Centre (POMC) we all had to have diversity training. Nothing wrong with that at all. However, one thing that we were told was that nick names were out and that we could be conducted coded for using them. One of the guys in the training was from Cornwall and was known to everyone as "Pastie". It was a nick name that he liked and asked people to call him that. What came out of the training was that his opinion didn't matter and that if any of us were heard referring to "pastie" we were in trouble. I know that this came from above, but during those days there was bullying environment with the MC manager unless you were one of his mates or a freemason:

Guvnors could get away with anything - all he would say was that it would be dealt with. this included misuse of company vehicles etc etc.
Why am I telling this story? Well because today I got a door to door from RM where the term "Postie" was repeated used. How could this be I thought? Surely RM shouldn't be using the term "Postie" in their official literature???

Sorry guys I was trying to make the point that RM shouldn't use the term "postie" to describe postmen and women.

To be honest, of all of the things that people get offended by in this modern world, I can't really imagine that the term "postie" is genuinely going to upset anyone at all.Pompey Boy wrote: ↑14 Jun 2022, 22:40Sorry guys I was trying to make the point that RM shouldn't use the term "postie" to describe postmen and women.

Never offended me but it was a term I always disliked as was Postalworker. I preferred Postman or Postwoman as the case maybe.I understand it’s a changed world and there are many shades of sexuality but I’m just stating my preference for me.Schiff wrote: ↑15 Jun 2022, 09:21To be honest, of all of the things that people get offended by in this modern world, I can't really imagine that the term "postie" is genuinely going to upset anyone at all.Pompey Boy wrote: ↑14 Jun 2022, 22:40Sorry guys I was trying to make the point that RM shouldn't use the term "postie" to describe postmen and women.

It isn't derogatory, identifies us from other couriers, has no discrimatory element, is gender neutral and it's nice and short at two syllables.
If you were trying to find a better word to use you would struggle.
Delivery Officer is just embarrassing.

Seriously - must be a wind up post !
If anyone can get offended by the word/term 'postie' then they must be the easily offended attention seeking type
