ignored for overtime

I was asked to cover a walk on another postcode section at the beggining of the pandemic, and have only recently returned to my section, approx 26 months in all. I had a lot of overtime as i was covering a full time walk and even worked my day off quite often. I was asked to help out by a manager to go to this other section. I had a reasonable amount of ot prior to agreeing to move.

On return to my original section I am being given no overtime, 4 weeks now, yet other part timers are getting loads, i have asked the manager repeatedly for some overtime but im just ignored. its like im a new starter.

The manager of the section i was seconded too says he is no longer my manager and just ignores me, even though i worked 26 months for him without a sick day, left my contracted walks to help out, and worked 5 or 6 days a week constantly. so no ot from his section either

My income has been slashed in half at this difficult time.

The manager of this section is giving overtime, and a lot of it to same regular guys, all who have been at rm less than a year, ive been here 8!

Included in the manager preferred ot regulars is an agency guy who seems to be there a couple of months, dissapears and then returns.

Is there a pecking order for ot or can the manager just give it to whoever he wants?

Also should the manager give ot to an agency guy in front of a company employee?

Im not in any way blaming anyone else for taking ot offered, rather i dont understand why im not getting any and if i have a right to a share and also if agency get ot before company guys

For starters forget how long anyone has been there, that's meaningless and just a distraction.

Overtime should be allocated fairly and evenly between all staff who wish to do it.

Agency hours should only be used as a last resort.

Speak to your rep if you believe you are being unfairly treated.

Attempt to resolve the situation with your immediate manager in the presence of your rep.

If no joy use the grievance procedure.

Is it fair of me to assume that in the case of agency worker being given work on days that i do not work but have requested ot is unfair as the work they are doing on these days can be covered by me, a company employee.

Giving agency worker(s) working hours that can be covered by an employee who has requested ot is not giving agency hours as a last resort?

Now we have coms, each postcode section has its own manager and staff so thats how overtime is being handed out, the manager of that section will sort his 30 or staff out in that postcode section first before looking elsewhere even if your in the same building.

Im not saying its right or wrong but that was what the whole management shuffle was over.

I understand that bit, I am miffed after all i done for the manager of the section that i was seconded to, that he will not even talk to me, let alone bung me a bit of ot, he knows im getting none now, but says thats the ways it is, not his concern.

Its more about the access to ot that is being given out by the manager of the section i have returned to, that he ignores my requests for ot, but gives it to other people of a similar or same contract as mine, or/and gives it to an agency worker who is regularly getting 2 - 3 more days, after matching my 23.5hrs, these days being im available and repatedly request ot

If that Angard agency worker has been at your unit for more than 13 weeks, and no gap of more than six weeks with given work assignments, then they are entitled to the same opportunities as yourself with terms and conditions if a manager calls them in.

Managers call them in when traffic forecast will be in excess of available man-hours for that day

Your beef is not with that agency worker but with the manager.

And to be blunt, all they have to offer with pay are your contracted hours each week which you agreed on starting the job as overtime is never guaranteed.

Obvious question, are you a member of the CWU??

If not then you need to submit a written grievance as informally trying to reach resolution has been met with a brick wall.

And not against any individual manager

Bit of a rant this.Back when I joined in '92' we had an overtime officer and a aggregate book.In my unit I have been pushing for a aggregate book for the last 3+ year's.All i got from my DOM was'no one will put their name down and we have to get the work out so we go around and ask.No need for a book.They like to be asked.'Finally got one 3 weeks ago and guess what?It is not being used.AGAIN.I was taught,worked and became friends with proper old school union men.GOOD MEN.Good postmen.Taught me and told me how to become a decent postman.Shame these so called governor's don't have the same mentors.
