how many days off sick before you get a stage 1 ?

On 14: Jan I had a fall at work,was taken to hospital, had a x-ray and was told I had a sprained ankle.
The nurse told me I would probably be off work for 4-6 weeks and signed me off for a week. This is standard practise so no problem there.

On 18: Jan I saw my GP who confirmed this and signed me off for a further 3 weeks.

Today, 21: Jan, the hospital phoned me and said "we've had another look at your X-ray and it is broken after all"
So tomorrow I go back to the hospital to have a pot put on. I dont know how long I'll be off now so let me ask,
How many 'sick' days have I got allowed before it all gets serious ?
Bearing in mind that RM management count sundays as sick days too. And CWU allow them to do so.

I will re-visit this thread tomorrow.

Should'nt get a Stage if it was an accident at work.
Arn't Drs great, I broke my arm the other year and they did'nt notice it on the x rays, took them 10 days to realise

An Accident On Duty (AOD) does not count towards a Stage - as long as it wasn't caused by something you shouldn't have been doing such as using a Yorkie as a skateboard.
You should have got it recorded as an Accident on Duty, with any witnesses.
The HR computer will however automatically issue a Stage 1 notification to your manager if your absence takes you to over 13 days or 3 absences in a 12 month period, and he will have to then notify you and hold a Stage 1 interview within 48 hours of notifying you.
Make sure you go in with a Rep, who should get it knocked back as it was caused by an AOD.

Accidents on duty are 'normally discounted' but it's my experience as a rep that they are increasingly regarding them as 'incidents' (!!!) rather than accidents and trying to include them in stage warnings. Make sure it's in the Accident book, get any witnesses if possible and dont say anything stupid ie I was sorting out my bundle of mail walking down a flight of stairs.
It would help if you were wearing RM shoes too rather than trainers - thats another dodge they use to pin the blame on you.

Thank-you for all the replies.
It was entered in the accident book the day after the fall and one of the questions asked was "were you wearing RM shoes ?" Which I was.

I can remember a guy coming on here saying he'd worked for 30 years dealing with Accident Claims in the Insurance Industry , he said he'd never heard so much nonsense as Accidents being redefined as Incidents , it's purely to justify using Accidents in the AP , to massage the figures as RM are being monitored by the HSE , the usual dodge to wriggle out of things .

The point about Witnesses is very important , my mate's sister -in-law's ex did his back in , RM just got the screws to swear blind he hadn't lifted the bag properly .

Nothing to do with wriggling out of compo of course !, you wouldn't expect anything less !

I got bit by a dog a couple of years ago. When I reported it to the dom he put it in the accident book. One of the first questions was about RM footwear, another was 'was I wearing my hi-vis vest?'.
Course I was, so the dog could see me!

Idiot questions, but if the answer is wrong.... Well it's your own fault.

No. only at a stage 3 you can appeal.

Was the accident investigated and what did it say in the report.
Ok the chances are the answers wil be no and nothing.
So if they DID NOT investigate the accident using h&s trained people,then you have a case.

You can put a grievance in to the manager as he has not followed proper guidelines/procedures as agreed by RM and the CWU.

If the above is the case then who the feck is he to say it was an incident and not an accident.
