My neighbour is basically a caretaker on the platform. He admitted to me he is a glorified tea boy and said I don’t come home knackered like you. Their money dwarfs ours and I’m not talking about the drivers. It will be interesting to see the outcome on how much they eventually get. We need to be like them and stick together as this is the biggest fight of our lives. We are being shafted from every angle and yet we still have the runners and the early starters. I really cant get my head around this.

I've always found it funny when Terry says RM wan't to create a two-tier workforce.wrongturn wrote: ↑23 May 2022, 13:21agree
we're a very divided workforce. everyone has a different idea on how to do the job. we're not all in the same boat because every office, walk, workload is different. some people are happy with their lot and some people who are 1-2 year in and being thrown around like a ragdoll cant do that for years and years.
our union need to do a better job communicating the fact we're all in it together !
They've already got at least 6.

Leverage. The trains stop running and many (including those in power) can't get to work; we stop working and nobody really cares. Maybe annoying your parcel doesn't turn up, but it ain't the end of the world if it arrives a day or two later. Tube drivers are the same; think their average salary is 50 - 60 grand a year before overtime?

For the record, in my opinion it ain't really realistic to be demanding rises that high. 1% costs the company 40 million quid, so demanding 10% will cost around 400 million. Union will settle for about 5%.

Re: Rail union demanding double digit pay rise.
I suspect the rail union real agenda is not wage rise, they're seeking a political fight with the government by balloting across all TOC and NR staff, which is a mistake as they would end up shooting themselves in the foot just as passengers are coming back and it's not quite up to prepandemic level, they will either WFH, National Express or car.
Double digit increase is not going to happen, nice as it would be, choose your battles.
The last time there was a union v government political fight, it destroyed the National Union of Mineworkers, created a divided community even families were split with many out of work.
When a union have a political fight, the public is not interested.

Re: Rail union demanding double digit pay rise.
Not sure I agree the rain unions are pushing for a fight with the government, this ain't the Tory government of Thatcher. Despise her as many do by all means, but she actually believed in what she was doing and had to stomach to fight for what she believed in. Boris is a populist that doesn't believe in anything. It is right unions doing what's best for their workforce by going after genuine payrises, but it just ain't gonna happen. We could also get to the point where wages are pushing up already too high inflation like back in the 70's.

I might have agreed except for the fact some of the influential senior members were reported to have links or former links to the Communist party and two of them have been photographed wearing the Orange black ribbon of St George in Russia and Donbas, compromising their position.
