Zareena Brown : CHIEF PEOPLE OFFICER

So again, it's one of the items that we want to talk to The CWU about, but let me share what I am able to do and so I will start by saying. you know it is not our intent to take all allowances away. so let me be really clear about that and in no way is it you know is the intent or would it result in a roading any of the pay proposal that we talked about.

So when we actually look at our allowances, you know, for example, we know that less than fifty percent of people actually receive allowances and many of the allowances that we're looking at have been in place for a long, long time and actually, in some instances, we've got individuals that do similar work and some of them receive allowances and some of them don't.

We also have allowances that we're absolutely right at the time they, were set some time ago, but actually, they just don't make sense at this point in time.

so what we are proposing and want to be able to have a look at with The CWU is how can we get to a place where we've got a simpler, fairer, and more consistent approach in terms of pay and the types of allowances that I've talked about would include part of that.

So you know I'll come back to the very beginning and say it's not our intent to take allowances away. we want to do the right thing to make it fairer and more consistent and more sensible when we look at some of the allowances that have been there for a long period of time and don't make sense in today's business.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Anyone else worried we may loose our jobs over all this?
The report in the 'i' paper saying rm will modernize with or without posties is scary.

If you come into work one day and your frame has been moved to near the bogs and there's a s**t load of work on it, so much work that you have to get a step ladder to sort it, then Royal Mail modernised without the posties.
Just in case tho, buy a job lot of air fresheners for said toilets.

There are more jobs than people who want them. In our latest recruitment campaign they took on 3.1 didn't even turn up on first day, 1 lasted a week and 1 is still here. There is no huge queue of people agency or otherwise who want to do our job. Especially with 7-7 potential working hours and Sunday working already part of the new entrants contract.
Please let's just ballot and get the share price down to £2 and then the shareholders will sack the board and we can carry on doing what we do.

So if

1. Royal Mail don't want to take the old allowances away, and
2. Ensure that everyone is on the same pay for the same work

Why don't they just upgrade those allowances to the existing employees so that they are all on parity?

For example, if you have a Workplace coach receiving an extra £38 per week. Why can't they just give everyone else a similar pay increase every week as well? After all, I've trained more guys up than our current WPC
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

same in our office lasted a couple of days then packed it in. even experienced postmen are now leaving for other jobs that pay similar or better pay and not so hard on the body. Tbh would not recommend this job to anyone now.

Maybe someone training for a triathlon?
The union obsession with protecting full time jobs is misguided if longer and longer delivery spans is the result.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

The only difference between full time and part time is the indoor bit so whether you're part time or full time, you're still going to have the longer delivery spans

Not in our office. Part time works 3 days a week. Also we used to have some 30 hour jobs which used be smaller deliveries.
