Anyone knackered?
I am shattered.
Been a Postie a few years now, in my 30's. I'd like to stay in this job for as long as possible as I do like it as long as I am not being harassed. I like the ~2pm finishes, I don't get bored of the job even though it is monotonous. BUT there is a big problem....
The job is destroying me physically. I am not sure if there is a way to fix this - I doubt there is. Legs humming, feet feeling bruised up, knees burning. In previous jobs I've had I never had any physical or mental issues that I'd take home with me after a days work, but this Postie job really affects me physically when away from work. My legs never get to recover, even after having a week off work my legs have not recovered.
I don't think I will last much longer in the job if it continues.
I am wondering if there is anything I can do to fix this...
Maybe I need to see a physio and get them to help my legs to recover. Maybe my legs never get the chance to 'rebuild' themselves, the muscle fibres always getting beaten up day after day. Maybe once they have recovered fully and I go again, then I won't have as much of an issue.
I am just looking for advice on how, if anything, I can overcome these physical issues at least in part. Or is this something all of us deal with daily and there is no getting round it?

You have created this same thread/post numerous times before
I think you have something underlying as its not really normal for someone your age

Can't say I do anything in particular to recover I'm 47 been doing this since I was 20.comfy trainers and if your overweight loose the weight apart from that you may have underlying issues.

I agree if this is so bad you may want to consult it with a physio or maybe speak to a GP. Before you go this way make sure you wear proper footwear. Ditch royal mail ones and buy some quality trainers. I would strongly suggest to look at much sleep do you get and what you eat. Poor diet will slow your recovery. Lastly you may want to start stretching, pay particular attention to your hamstrings, quads, glutes, calves. You should have a 10-15min stretching session at least 5times a week. If this doesn't help go back to point 1. See a physio or GP.

Make sure you’re eating healthily and taking in plenty of calories as you can easily burn them off in this job. I recently changed my breakfast from cereals to a high calorie protein shake and found this gives me more energy and aids muscle recovery. Also consider taking supplements such as BCAAs, Fish oil capsules.

Re: Anyone knackered?
I think most of us are suffering mate, one way or another. There was a BIG increase in problems when we first ditched the bikes, everyone was suddenly having to walk down all those pathways that they'd previously ridden down.
Perhaps it's a case of people changing to an active/walking job where perhaps they had a more sedantery lifestyle? Some of our Young Starters really suffer until they get a bit of fitness, it's not the same as sitting on your arse playing Fortnight!
I'm an old git so I expect a few aches & pains. I manage them with anti-inflammatories, pain killers, gels, supports & strapping (NOT all at once but where appropriate).
Us posties are like sportsmen watch how Rugby Players turn up for a match.
A handful of pills in the morning and stretching helps. I take Multi-Vitamins, Cod Liver Oil and Glucostamine (my Daughters Running Club swear by it to help your knees & joints).
Hope your situation improves and you never suffer from Plantars ... That's a Real Bastard

Same from me, plus I'll add I've had/still got plantars and describing them as a bastard is being kind, they really are a f***ing curse that's becoming more common than ever in this job, believe me your feet hurt like hell and getting home to rest makes no difference, it takes weeks for the pain to go.Dorset Plodder wrote: ↑21 May 2022, 17:43

If you were going to play a sport -(football/rugby/whatever) you would warm up and probably warm down without even thinking about it.
This job is no different.
Stretch before you start. Stretch when you finish.
And use a trolley. That weight on your "back" is going down through your hips, knees, ankles and ultimately your feet.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: Anyone knackered?
This sounds similar to pre-diabetes symptoms (which I know about) , but never mind what I or anyone else says, get to your doctors, explain your symptoms and hopefully get some blood tests. And do it now, don't piss about.
Best regards.
