ESA half pay

Hi guys. Hope someone can help. I’m on halfpay and my ssp is due to run out on the 8th of June. I’ve been diagnosed with a rare condition called spinal epidural lipomatosis. I have contacted the DWP and put a claim in for ESA. Had a phone call from DWP where I had to answer a few questions and everything seemed straight forward. This morning a medical questionnaire came in the post. Is this normal practice from DWP as I have sent them my SSP1 form from Royal Mail and thought I would automatically be entitled to ESP. Any help would be great full thanks.

Your claim for ESA will run from the first day you applied for it. You will be asked to complete a health assessment on the phone, then ESA will be paid after around 16 weeks, backdated to your claim date. It's approximately £74 a week and is contribution based if you have been employed for a while

Just to add, anyone who is on half pay can apply for ESA from that wage reduction date. You don't have to wait until your pay is zeroed.

Just might add that if you have savings more than £6000 - £16,000 ESA payment will be reduced on a sliding scale.
Any savings over £16,000 and you will not qualify for ESA.

Contribution based ESA is not a means tested benefit.
I got cancer and went to half pay when SSP run out and was never asked about any savings, just sent a medical questionnaire.
I get £74 per week paid every two weeks.

Other conditions for contributory ESA
Unless you are claiming due to coronavirus, as well as having paid enough National Insurance contributions, you must also satisfy other conditions. To make an initial claim all you must do is provide a medical certificate. However, after an ‘assessment phase’ (which should be 13 weeks but can take longer) contributory ESA is only payable if you meet the ‘Work Capability Assessment’ rules.

Unlike means-tested benefits, there is no income and savings test for contributory ESA. However, your contributory ESA is reduced by half the amount of any pension or permanent health insurance payment received in excess of £85.

Even if you claim contributory ESA you may also be entitled to means-tested benefits to ‘top-up’ the amount you get. To find out your entitlement to means-tested benefits please continue through the calculator.

It's all a bit arsey now, sick notes are not enough.
You fill out the questionnaire which is quite long, they will then look at it and then arrange a phone call appointment.

Because the sicknote, medical evidence and the long questionnaire, is not enough!
