RMCtv : Quality of Service is improving - but there is more work to do

Quality of Service is improving – but there is more work to do

Today we issued our Universal Service Obligation (USO) Quality of Service report for Q3. During Q3 we have delivered 93.8 per cent of Second Class mail within three working days and 76.8 per cent of First Class mail the next working day. 92.5 per cent of First Class mail was delivered within two days of being posted.

While we deliver the vast majority of mail safely and on time, a number of factors have impacted our service levels during the period, including the ongoing impact of the pandemic and Covid-related self-isolation and absence.

Interim chief operations officer, Ricky McAulay, said today: ‘We’re working hard to improve our service levels having spent over £340 million on overtime, additional temporary staff and sick pay, as well as providing targeted support for the offices most impacted via our Delivery Performance Taskforce.

‘However, as our absence levels stabilise, our Quality of Service is improving. During January, we saw steady improvements in First Class performance, reaching 85.6 per cent by the last week of the month – the highest level since July 2021.

‘We have more work to do and improving our usual high levels of service is critical, but I would like to thank all our colleagues right across our frontline operation, for your continued hard work and dedication through what has been a challenging period.

‘Our focus is, of course, to improve our service levels and a big part of that is getting our people healthy and back to work.’

At the peak of Omicron, absence levels were double what we would expect to see at that time of the year pre-pandemic, with around 15,000 people off sick. As a result, our Quality of Service has not been as we would have wished. Whilst we’ve been operating deliveries as normal in most areas, in some local offices this has led to around one third of employees being absent from work, which made delivering our usual high standards of service challenging.

Ricky added: ‘I look forward to seeing what we can do in Q4.’

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The cheek of claiming it's down to staff sickness with no mention of....

being understaffed because recruitment is failing with vast numbers of Posties leaving and not being replaced, either because the recruitment is poor by RM themselves, not enough people want to be Posties, and/or a freeze was put on recruitment when mail centres are understaffed.

There are also reasons why sickness would be a problem in a job like this due to harassment and the fact we walk long distances daily, but it seems the people at the top don't listen and clearly do not value us with the poor pay offer and strings they want to attach including wanting us to walk even further during the winter period by introducing longer working days.

People say a lot of Posties don't stay in the job because they need to be working 35 hours a week+. I'd actually prefer to work less as the job is too physical. Working less (say a 3 day week) would be ideal for me. If this was offered throughout the country you may get a lot of takers. From those coming towards the end of their working lives, to those who have 2nd jobs. I am not sure if this would also benefit Royal Mail or not. I would assume sickness would go down as the Posties working 3 days would be less likely to end up with injuries/ailments, they'd also be less likely to dishonestly take days off work as they'd have 3 days off per week.

It's always the postie's fault. We are the end of the line, pile all you want on delivery staff and if it isn't delivered it must be their fault.

Same old, same old at our place.

11 duties failed on Saturday and this week 3 van share pairs will have only one side going out each day. Told yet again by a manager (one of the fancy new ones) to concentrate on Tracked as that is what counts for the office performance figures. Told yet again that letters don't matter, not interested that the letters may contain hospital appointments etc etc.

Endless lies from the CEO down to the super duper new COMs. The only people who know the truth are us poor sods trying to do the job.

Interim chief operations officer and part-time human dildo model Rocky Morley, said today: ‘We’re working hard to improve our service levels having spent over £340 million on overtime, additional temporary staff and sick pay, as well as providing targeted support for the offices most impacted via our Delivery Performance Taskforce.
Does anyone here think sick pay improves service levels ? Nope me neither so why include it?
Possibly because without including the £250 million in sick pay, the amount spent is a rather less than impressive £90 million? Keep shouting that sick pay is £250 million and someone apart from the board might give a f**k?
Just a guess mind you.
‘However, as our absence levels stabilise, our Quality of Service is improving. During January, we saw steady improvements in First Class performance, reaching 85.6 per cent by the last week of the month – the highest level since July 2021.
January's QoS improvements wouldn't have anything to do with it being directly after the utter clusterfuck that was Xmas 2021?
Or are we supposed to have forgotten all about that after a couple of expendables were thrown under the golden bus?
‘We have more work to do and improving our usual high levels of service is critical, but I would like to thank all our colleagues right across our frontline operation, for your continued hard work and dedication through what has been a challenging period.
Nothing like showing appreciation as long as it costs you nowt eh?

‘Our focus is, of course, to improve our service levels and a big part of that is getting our people healthy and back to work.’
At the peak of Omicron, absence levels were double what we would expect to see at that time of the year pre-pandemic,around 15,00 people off sick

SO THE f**k WHAT? More people absent during worldwide pandemic due to infection by potentially debilitating and fatal illness or to prevent further spread of said bug? Does 'absence levels' refer to the number of people off sick/shielding or the amount of sick days? Bit vague there Rocky, as usual.

Ricky added: ‘I look forward to seeing what we can do in Q4.’
[translation] 'I look forward to seeing what we can do to you in Q4'

I’m with you on that. There’s only 2 things motivating me to stay in this job - doing a 4 day week, and having just under 9 years left until I retire. How some people do 6 (even 7) days a week I don’t know.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.
