Delivery on Easter Sunday?

Drove past a postie delivering yesterday. Pouch on back, bundle of mail in hand. I presume this isn't a normal thing? I was under the impression that the new contracts which included Sundays were for parcel deliveries only.

318s don't have any relevance anymore, haven't for many years.

You couldn't run a DO these days with such a restrictive practice.
Everyone in any job in any industry falls under a "work as directed" remit, you don't need a clause because it's always implied and sometimes explicitly stated in your contract that you'll follow management instructions.

As long as those instructions are reasonable, fair, safe and lawful.

As far as delivering mail on Easter Sunday is concerned it would have to be delayed mail from Saturday in order to get round the USO but if you're down to work Sunday and you're told to deliver the mail then that's what you do.

After the ' ...reasonable, fair, safe and lawful' bit you missed off 'and in line with union agreements'. That's what we pay our subs for, so they can't enforce overtime, or working practices that aren't actually agreed.

It's also the most tricky because collective agreements are typically not written in straightforward language and are therefore open to interpretation.

I've worked a lot of Sundays since I started last summer, I'd say 70% of them have been clearing mail, usually on routes where managers fear upsetting the resident postie (maybe it's one who has previously been signed off for stress, maybe it's one who squares up to the managers screaming if the walk hasn't been covered)

I know of an office near us that clears mail left over from Saturday.

Does that mean we can deliver failed mail from Saturday on Sundays? Our manager gave the impression no mail can be delivered on Sunday.

I received 2 Reedbok parcels on Sunday, came in separate vans no wonder we aren't making any money on the "new services"
