Easter Sunday

What is the process if you normally work a Sunday as a normal duty ie. callers office when Easter Sunday occurs. The callers was closed but staff were told they were expected to work the hours due on Sunday on top on the the Saturday. Easter Sunday isn't an official BH as it always falls on a Sunday, so Im unsure on what is expected of staff who normally work a Sunday?

I've never had to deal with Easter Sunday but I suspect that the same protocol must hold the field as it does for Christmas and New Year in that there is no claw back of hours.

Easter sunday hours normally 8am to 1pm in mc i work in for all weekend staff. Afaik no claw back of hours.

I think the important point to make here is that Easter Sunday, whilst a day of religious significance for some employees, is not a public or bank holiday.

It is therefore regarded as a normal Sunday. However, it is a non USO day and therefore the overwhelming majority of our colleagues do not work.

This is consistent with other large employers – for example, as you have said many of the big supermarkets will close their large stores on Easter Sunday but their local stores tend to remain open.

In terms of your question around pay, the enhanced payment for Boxing Day was exceptional and specifically designed to support the fulfilment of our Covid test delivery/returns to laboratory contract. As such, the expectation is that employees therefore attend for work on Easter Sunday where they are scheduled to do so.

Just found out that I will be expected to work Easter Sunday which I’m really not happy about.

I don’t see why there is a need for it. Yodel and DPD are closed. A lot of customers are surprised when we deliver on a Sunday let alone Easter Sunday.

To be fair, you are in no position to complain

You signed for a Sunday duty so expected to work it as specified in your contract of employment.

That is why you get an enhanced pay rate as compensation for the unsocial aspect of working that duty

Ask Yodel/DPD or Hermes if they get paid extra for working unsocial hours

So next time Christmas day, Boxing day or New Year's day falls on a Saturday or Sunday you won't be accepting the substitute day and you'll be coming to work on the Monday?

Easter Sunday is a public holiday.
It's not a bank holiday but neither is Christmas day when it falls on a Saturday or Sunday.

Christmas day is classed as a Non Working Day, but regarded as a Bank Holiday with annual leave entitlement. Working those days depends on your contract of employment.

I'm aware of the business position.
That doesn't mean it's right or people should attempt to climb on a high horse and proclaim that people affected by it are "in no position to complain".

You agree to those terms when you sign for that duty, you cannot pick which terms you disregard

Am sure the retail sector on a Sunday would prefer not to work either but they accepted it is a contractual term
