What is the notice period for a weekly paid worker?

Post by Williagea »

Hi all,
I’ve been offered an amazing job outside of Royal Mail that I want to accept. Obviously I’m going to need to hand in my notice but I cannot find out what my notice period is. I’m a full time, weekly paid worker who has been working with Royal Mail for 3 years.
Any help would be appreciated!

You will need to give 4weeks notice if you started in 2019. I believe it will be stated in your contract IF you still have a copy (can contact HR to get a copy)
Also Congratulations :nana

4 weeks if you want to leave on 'good' terms. Don't think they could do a lot if you just quit, we've had a growing number do just that with no consequences.

It changed a few years back, possibly April 2017 (I could be wrong), and everyone who has started since then is four week's notice. If you started before that it is one week. Technically RM could sue you for not working your notice, but its more likely they'd withhold any outstanding pay and/or do nothing.

I thought it was 4 weeks too but the "leaving the business" policy on PSP says that most weekly paid employees only have a weeks notice period...

A bloke I know finished his week of nights on the Saturday morning and had a weeks leave the following week. Handed his notice in on Saturday morning. Pure class. :cuppa

I'm planning something similar, except my last week will be a Wally week. :wave

Notice went in this morning, Minor screw started on about my notice period being more than a week, (it's not) 'Oh you'll have to wait 'til the Dom gets back.' (No, I won't). Can't wait for this next week :nana

Cheers CB. Feeling quite giddy at the prospect of weekends, lie-ins, not aching and being too knackered to do owt. :nana
