10 weeks in as a newbie

Hi all
This is my 10th week as a postie. Done 9 weeks on my training round and odd day on a another round in that time. Now am on a different dutie everyday which I don’t mind but it’s the postie they put me with, because I don’t know the rounds they refuse to work with me, they don’t speak to me n basically it’s horrible as they won’t help with the frame, they just completely ignore me. I get their frustrations when put with someone that doesn’t know the round….but take it out on me like it my fault??? This is really getting me down now as I loved the job until I kept getting moved. Am definitely not slow but if they kept me on one dutie more then one day I’d be a lot faster and be able to get used to the frame Will this get any better or is this what will happen now???

Sorry, but it will probably carry on. Reserves get pushed from pillar to post, sometimes you'll even get changed to 3 or 4 different duties in a day.

If you are lucky enough to have a decent, competent manager they might try to keep you on 3 or 4 duties so you get to know them.

The only thing that isnt fairly "normal" about your experience is the attitude of the person you are working with. There is a percentage of the population who are just arseholes and RM does seem to employ quite a few of them. They are possibly in a similar situation as you with being messed about but there is no excuse for them seeming to take it out on you. I always take the opinion that you are all in the s**t together so you might as well get along - helping each other makes things easier for both of you

When I start same like you different walk everyday but that way I learn very quickly I know most of the walk in my office now summer is ahead so it's not too bad by the time winter Come you are going to expert with all duties

It’s normally the case that you will get moved around, the good thing is the more duties you get to know, the easier it becomes as time goes by and you gain more knowledge. Don’t let other Posties bother you, they are at the same level as you. It will hopefully get better for you.

Sorry to hear about your situation, yes some posties are set in their ways and can't be bothered with a new start who doesn't know the duty they have been put on, they forget that once upon a time they were that new start! Don't worry not all the experienced posties will be like that, you will soon come across some of the better ones who will only be to helpful and show you the ropes good luck, stick in.

For the OP, agree with koolishy and in the end you will find out you are familiar with more duties than the person who is giving
you the cold shoulder and who would possibly have a meltdown if they were asked to move on to a different walk.

Try not to take any notice. Try and tell your rep or Dom about your problems see if they can accommodate you somehow. There’s some bellends in RM. Well done for sticking out the initial period, it’s without a doubt really difficult for anyone new to the business early on.

How did you get rid of van sharing?

It was an offer in our office from management, which turned into an agreement between both parties. There was a vote. It was definitely worth it.

“Hey I’ve noticed you’re a bellend to me. Were you born a bellend of did you become one?”

I’ve just got my own round but your situation is relatable. I’ve worked with many people who absolutely won’t say a single word, or if they do, it’s a tantrum.

At the end of the day all you can do is laugh at people like this and call them out on being who they are.

They’re saddos a lot of them. Imagine being such a bellend to not helping someone just through the door through the sake of *possibly* finishing a little later than you ordinarily would (which you could book for), and if things were getting silly or whatever, just cut off. I wouldn’t dream of it. Like people have said, we all know how it feels to be a new start.

This., I've been with this company just shy of 15 years, and have never worked with a bigger bunch of w*****s in my life, not all but a good percentage, just love the sound of there own voice, and repeat the same shite day in day out, and a lot of them it is the only job they have had since leaving school, this job to me is a means to an end, or as most postie's say a stop gap till something better comes along .
