Knee replacement

Hi , I'm going to have a knee replacement in the near future after doing 34 years posting and I'm wondering if fellow posties have had the same procedure gone back to delivery ?
If not what did you do ,did you have to move to a near by mail centre, leave the business or take IHR .

i would go down the IHR route theres no way a knee replacement will last long doing 5 hours on delivery think of your long term health

Very much dependends on the situation. How bad was your knee, and how well will the op go.

Some people bounch back very well and may be able to continue work, others not so lucky. I think you'll have to wait for your results. I'd be positive though, we don't know the details of your duty, your work ethic, your attitude to IHR, could you drop down to a shorter contract, transfer to a Mail Centre?

IHR is a long way down the road, I don't think you need the added strees of worrying about that just now. Good luck with the op.

Rehab is hard work and needs to done or u won't see benefits.
If ur duty is 4/5 walking then I can't see replacement lasting .

you could probably string it out for six months then go for ihr or indoor work if available which i doubt but i certainly wouldnt put a knee replacement through the delivery spans we have now but the choice is yours at the end of the day good luck

I had both knees replaced nine years ago,long before I joined RM. As suggested, it would be better to see how your knee is after the op. You will be given plenty of physio exercises, always do them as they will build the strength back that you will need ,long before you can think about doing anything strenuous.

I personally would try to get some light duties for a few months and see how you feel. I’ve had no problems with mine.

had my right one done in 2011 and my left in 2012. was off for 13 to 14 weeks both times then 8 weeks rehab and gradually eased back onto delivery. was given a duty with flat terrain(steep hills and stairs are a no go area) then the deliveries gradually got bigger. and bigger. i was coping fine until a couple of years ago when my first one started to 'loosen and wear down' . eventually i had to go in for a ''revision'' knee replacement, which is a replacement of a replacement. that was in May 2021, i was off till August and have been back since with no problems and doing ok. so had mine done 3 times. but, since the revisions and even larger delivery (now 5 hours plus) its now affecting my left one and it looking like another revision knee job on the left one. time i was gone methinks. they are designed to last 15-20 years with 'normal wear and tear' but this job is anything but, so it effectively halves the lifespan of your new knee. guess i just loved the job too much.

bud i have had both knees replaced i went back on delivery personal choice really i have only 3 years left to retire got to say doing my round has built my knee leg muscles up again so thats my storey, so good luck to you plus your knee pain disappears its so nice pain free and drug free
