Sick leave not making sense.

So, I was off from work for 4 month due to my sister and her husband being murdered. There is nothing in any employment policy for a murder or anything along those lines.
I can’t now take any time off sick even though I feel incredibly ill. (2 prior absences this year being postpartum after having a baby and feeling very depressed and another due to a sickness bug)

I don’t understand how the sick leave works, surely postpartum is under pregnancy kind of and should be discounted. And also surely grief from a murder shouldn’t even be put on my record?
I’m very confused and feel dreadful.

So so sorry for your loss.

Regarding sick if you have been here longer than a year then you are entitled to 6 months full sick pay over a rolling 4 year period, then you would go on to pensionable sick pay after that if in the pension.

Regarding stage warnings, I can probably put my house on it that you will not get a stage warning because of your problems.
Both of your main ones would be discounted.

Sorry to hear of all your problems, not sure where you live but I would pop into the main Mail centre for your area, find the CWU office, explain everything that is happening to you, I would be really surprised if they didn’t offer to have a meeting face to face with the manager there is no way u can be at work with all this going on, hopefully somebody will listen, can’t really help u than this, hope somebody is listening u might also need some counselling the union can also help with this.

I went to my manager yesterday and I can’t go off sick due to staff shortages with nobody to cover my duty, so I’m being forced essentially to stay in work even though I feel dreadful.
We’ve had staff shortages for a good few years and they aren’t hiring enough people to fill the duties of people who have left. It’s a nightmare

Sorry to say the managers just don’t care. I would speak to your doctor I would imagine they would sign you off also contact first class support the number is on your wage slip. They really helped me when I had a breakdown last year. I’m not sure how long you’ve been with the company but managers generally have less empathy than a stone. Worst case scenario you end up with a stage one.

Who says you can't go sick. if your not well your not well up to manager to cover the staff shortages .look after yourself your health comes first not what rm think.

Sorry for your loss

Perhaps speak to your gp and get signed off work. Also contact union reps. Staff shortages are not your problem, and management should not tell you that you cannot go off sick due to staffing issues.

I decided to call in sick, still not feeling well. I worked 24 hours last week and my payslip is saying I did 15 and I got sick pay? I called in sick 1 day that week. I’m so baffled by it.

For starters, it's not for your manager to say if you can or cannot go off sick. What would he/she say if you were diagnosed with cancer or broke your back in an accident or something? Sorry , you'll have to come to work, there's nobody to do your duty? Guess what, tough sxxt ! If you're not fit for work, you don't go. Simple. With what you have been through, you need a break and an understanding boss. Ask your manager to put you in touch with 'feeling first class' and get to your GP to sign you off for a while. Have a look on the Union bit for the attendance proceedures and stages guidelines. Generally taking the odd day here and there is worse than having a block off in terms of stages. Don't worry, get yourself sorted. You would be very very unlucky to go to disciplinary through stages with your circumstances.
