Revision And The Union
Can someone enlighten me on this good deal we have got with a shorter working week and revision? We are working roughly 10 minutes a day less and yet I have an extra 100 delivery points in the revision. All approved by the CWU.
How the heck is more work in less time a good deal? Unless you sit in your ivory tower and don’t actually do a walk!

Re: Revision And The Union
Just work your contracted hours , would you rather the union negotiate a longer working day for you ?Whatever work loads Royal Mail want to put on you is up to them , you only have so many hours in a day to work.

If it's too much in the time allocated, bring what you can't deliver back to the office. You've got a start time and a finish time. Simple.

Re: Revision And The Union
It isn't really that simple.
For anyone who still believes the ethos of this company is to deliver stuff then failing mail on a daily basis is unsettling.
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining. Some people might enjoy that others don't.
Knowing every day that the workload will be too much is stressful for some people.
Anyone who thinks there long term job prospects are enhanced by failing mail is deluded.
And anyone who thinks they won't seriously start looking at performance once the all singing all dancing management structure is in place hasn't seen the direction of travel of this company.
You have a start time and a finish time.
One of my colleagues told me they had told management that their duty was 25% too big. Every day they leave 50%.
Simple?

Re: Revision And The Union
I invite any of the top brass to come out on delivery with me and my partner, I'm sure they would walk away , who designs these unachievable amounts of work we are supposed to get done every day on time , who is kidding who, who are these deluded people , top management and top union people, I'm in the union bye the way, they have no reason to think what we do daily for this co.is fair. OT
Is happening Dailly, the unsorted mail from the mail centre is increasing due to failures to have it sequence sorted in time, oversized packets are a York full per day, and if the shorter working week comes in another hour or 2, then OT will increase again! The situation is going to get worse, senior management talk to the workers they will tell you the truth , the changes are not working

Re: Revision And The Union
Agree with what Clash says.
We've seen enough bullying in this business to understand that "just work your hours" is a childish oversimplification of the problem and the solution.
Managers have the power to make life hell for anyone who defies them, it doesn't need to be about performance they simply need to wait on you making an inevitable mistake.
If you work in an office with a decent manager or a strong union presence then you're lucky and enjoy it but just because you do don't assume everyone does.
Nobody should have to go to work expecting a daily battle with management over workload.
The new management structure appears to be geared up towards competition between managers in the same office over performance based on items per work hour, anything that drags that down from start times, duty patterns, lapsing to individual performance and sick absence will be under the microscope.

Re: Revision And The Union
What if they scrutinise your indoor performance?
What if they decide on an indoor performance standard far in excess of what you are currently used to ?
The outdoor element of the job is only one part of what we do. The indoor will be easier to monitor.

Re: Revision And The Union
Having recently transferred DOs, I was surprised that my DOM had never heard the word "no"
He was surprised when he did hear the word "no"
Posties need to make a stand. If you want to work overtime then carry on but if you only want to work your contracted hours, you have every right to do so.

Re: Revision And The Union
Clash is right, keep getting told by our rep just work your hours no point getting stressed. Thats how out of touch they are with people and mental health etc. Some ppl cant face the daily battle with seeing a dom about leaving mail . We are all different , i know theres staff working miles past there time cause they dont want the intimidation etc. Said at the start of these joke revisions that would happen , rep just repeats himself again, work to your time, then advising us all to vote in these revisions we all knew were a disgrace ! Was his duty affected , nope !
