Full time reserve child care issues

Post by Rmurphy91 »

Hi all

Revision starting in our office in next few weeks and manager said the only way I can my usual shift and have Monday and Tuesday off is by going full time reserve. They’re now saying I have to work til 5 or 6 doing parcels and collections however I always pick my son up from nursery after I finish work at 2:30 / 3. Is there any way I can get them to agree to keep me full time and start 7? My union says this is not a possibility as I’d be a reserve. The only option they’ve given me is to go down to part time

How do you have Monday and Tuesday off, start at 7, finish before 3 and manage to do full time hours?

I assume they are asking you to do parcels till 5 to make up the hours for the extra day off you are getting

Are you working Sundays? If so how many hours?

You can't force them to do anything other than look at your situation objectively and give a sound justifiable business reason for rejecting your request if that's what they choose to do.

That's where your rights begin and end.

If you're going to enter into this fight you need to think about why they might refuse your request and try to undermine their argument, look for solutions not roadblocks.

I work Wednesday to Sunday and have Monday and Tuesday off as my set days to look after my son. I think the only option is to drop down to part time to allow me to finish at 2 to collect him from nursery. Union has said there’s nothing they can do. My office has undergone revision. Some jobs are starting at 9-10 and finishing at 5 - 6 o clock. Doing parcels or collections.
