How to hand in notice officially

Sorry this might be a dumb question - I can't find it anywhere. How do I hand my notice in? Do I have to write a formal letter or can I just tell my DOM?

Even this it more than really needed. You can just write "I quit" on a scrap of paper and sign it if you really wanted to.

By the way, just in case, notice is one-way. They cannot make you stay longer than notice, and if you're willing to risk paying back some cash (The difference between your wages and the cost of covering your notice, not a penny more), you can quit without notice.

Better putting it in writing with your last day of service. They will have the option to bar you from future rehire if you dont follow the process etc. Also makes it smoother for yoh being paid any outstanding annual leave if you make it clear yoyr last day of service

If quit immediately do you still get holiday pay owed also do get pay on annual leave worked on overtime ? Cheers

If "quit immediately" means walk out and not go back then RM would be entitled to deduct any leave days owing to you to cover part of the notice period.

No idea about the wonderful holiday pay agreement. If you met all of the qualifying periods then you are owed it, but as RM don't pay it for a month or two they may well overlook it. And again, if you didn't work your notice period RM would be entitled to make deductions from any payment due.

I just took all my kit in bags, dumped it on his desk handed him my id badge and said Bye, I quit. said a few goodbyes and some f**k offs to some of the posties in the DO, and walked out the door into my new job.

best thing I ever did, and still smile about how I did it to this day. :)

Depends how you want to play it but I just wrote a note thanking them for my time there ( don't have to be truthful) I actually gave them two weeks notice when it only had to be one and they thanked me for that, I knew I had another job lined up but start date was five weeks away so gave myself a nice break in there anyway!

Got paid my untaken holiday pay in the payslip on the day I left (which was over two weeks worth) and so had a nice final payment and went and enjoyed them few weeks before starting elsewhere. I guess it's just how good your office is? Boss had a word with me before I left and said was sorry to see me go and if it didn't work out elsewhere and I saw a job advertised then not to hesitate. I have zero plans to ever go back but end of the day if you find yourself out of work and desperate at least there's an option. So guess that's the correct way to go about it good luck with what ever you are moving on to

I started July 2016.
Mislaid my contract, moved house since.
My understanding is that I give 4 weeks notice.
Am I correct?
