Few years back, I transferred to my current office, I was a reserve and the second week at my new office, I had this convo with the DOM.
DOM: I need to send you to XXX delivery office tomorrow as they are short staffed.
Me: ok, but that’s 45 mins drive away….
DOM: Yep, you need to be there at 9am
Me: no problem, can I take a van to get there and back?
DOM: No, no spare vans, can you drive there?
Me: Nope
DOM: Why? You drove in today?
Me: Yes, I drove in today
DOM: I’m not sure why you can’t drive to XXX
Me: I’m not insured to drive there
DOM: What? You’re driving without insurance?
Me: Nope, I have insurance where I’m covered to drive to my regular place of work, not other sites and I don’t have business insurance.
DOM: *super puzzled look* are you sure? Hmmmm, let me find out……
DOM: I’ve spoken to the DOM at XXX, they can send someone to come and get you, but can you come in early so you can be at XXX at 9am?
Me: I’ll be at my normal start time.
DOM: What? Why are you being difficult?
Me: I’m not, just starting at my contracted start time.
DOM: *puzzled Angry look* ok
Next morning at 9am, I started at my office
DOM: ‘Tom’ will be here soon to get you
Me: ok, np. Tom was the DOM at the other office, I said to both my DOM and 'Tom', I will need to be back here at here (my office) for my finish time and I will also take my break. (In front of a witness)
DOM: Hmmm, lots of strange noises, grants, looks and things between them, they said OK.
So, got the other office just after 10am, the mail was sitting in trays and not prepped, so a couple of hrs of doing that, I was ready to go out on delivery, Spoke to 'Tom' and said I will be back here about 12.45 for my meal break and then back to my office in time for my finish time. He looked a little gobsmacked, looked at the clock and said ‘That’s in about hour’, I said ‘Yep’
Anyway, I got back to my office at my finish time, 'Tom' was not very happy, said to my DOM, that I was *not* needed tomorrow.
