Vote of no confidence
How do you go about having a vote of no confidence in your union rep? Many people in our office are fed up with the lack on interest of our rep has with our issues. We are unable to book our holidays, we are constantly fobbed off when we enquire about a resign, part time staff are being made up to full time ahead of ones who have been there longer. When we ask a manager they say it's the reps job to sort these things out. The rep only seems to have there own favourites.

Re: Vote of no confidence
I think you need to get a petition signed by half of the union members in your office asking for it, then pass it to your branch secretary who has to arrange an election. Though any self respecting union rep would resign if they knew half of the membership signed that.
Maybe phone Wimbledon and start there.

Sign a sheet, as many signatures as possible and send *a copy* to your area rep.

Re: Vote of no confidence
need the majority half won't cut it
Plus if you get the majority from the office when it comes to the ballot the majority will prob vote for the rep.
The member's will feel under pressure when your asking them to sign the sheet Infront of you
Good luck but
Sounds like your managers ain't got a clue to be honest as well

Re: Vote of no confidence
Even if manager has'nt a clue what has that got to with rep. Surely if he's a half decent rep he would walk all over this.Yamr1 wrote: ↑03 Mar 2022, 22:11need the majority half won't cut it

Re: Vote of no confidence
Million percent mate
Scary that a rep doesn't know any of this,
The CWU Needs to set up more educational classes for new Reps and older Reps.
Seen alot of the older Reps that need training,
Other scary thing is some don't want to learn that puts the above guy wanting a vote of no confidence in.
Sad times
All of the above makes the managers free to do whatever they want in there office without any rep challenging him breaking national and local agreements.

Re: Vote of no confidence
If you dare to criticise the standard of representation to the union at any level you get the same stock answer.
It's a thankless task.
Yeah sure, but only if you make the effort.
If you're a lazy useless piece of s**t kept in place by your mouthpiece mates to look after you and your mouthpiece mates it isn't a thankless task at all is it?

Re: Vote of no confidence
I am not a union rep but have been fighting for the last approx 4 years for the workers rights. Equality welfare health and safety. I have probably placed more grievances than the whole Mail Centre in 20 years. LOL. 99% have been upheld 1% on the fence. I seem to know more about Regs and company policies and procedures than all union reps put together. I am not afraid to go up against the hierarchy. The union reps within my location are a disgrace. It has now come to the point where many union members come to me for help. There are so many failures with the reps in that in 2021 they put my work colleagues in danger. I had to take immediate step in emails insist that the the electrical equipment be taken out of service due to Electricity at work, Fire Regs and PUWER. Plus numerous other H&S issues.
I fought for an Employee on a stage 2 and over a period of 10 days got it reduced to a Stage 1 and then down to a zero stage. This was achieved with my knowledge of legislation and company policy's. I'm also fighting for another employee which has been refused help and support. I Hope I will also be successful in this case for the employee. It is becoming extremely difficult now with pressure as I do my full shift and do all the notes paper in my spare time.

Re: Vote of no confidence
There is no appeal process but you can put in a grievance about it. A successful grievance may not reduce a stage, but the member can ask for it to be removed as a solution to the grievance. If they have included that as a solution to the grievance, and it is upheld, then Royal Mail would have to explain why in their answer. At least that is how I understand it, but as I am not a trained rep I may be wrong.

Re: Vote of no confidence
You can't appeal the decision part of a stage but you can question the process.
Most of the time a stage is reduced or discounted because they've got the dates wrong, either the date of issue or the actual absence dates, sometimes this is missed at stage one because people are usually not too worried at this point.
It's possible to walk into the room thinking you're about to be on a stage 2 and walk out with a clear record.
It's not that uncommon for managers to screw the whole process up so the best advice is to keep a diary.

Re: Vote of no confidence
It is an absolute disgrace that the absence procedure does not have an appeals process after a disciplinary sanction has been issued.
