Anyone heard anything ? What’s taken so long

Last email was on the 11th of feb, stating apologies for the delay and still not in a position to confirm who has been selected for the training places.

By the sounds of it, it's starting to look like the volume has gone back down and now they don't need the extra drivers, or i could be way wrong and emails will be sent out in the next week or 2 starting with the lucky ones that got in.

It's all gone very quiet some 3 weeks ago. I personally have not heard a thing. In fact I assume a lot of people would drop out anyway as there are quite a few strings attached however I would love to find out what sort of training they actually offer. Whether it is from cat B straight to C+E +CPC. It is now possible after latest changes from November 2021. If it's not straight to C+E then with all these strings for cat C1 it is just not worth the hassle.

One or 2 in our office who applied for it have had replies stating they are out of the catchment area or something along those lines, like they live to far away from any possible opening positions if they pass the training.

That is probably what RM are thinking at this moment in time, because they don't ever plan ahead.

Then come Christmas time it'll be a mad dash to hire vehicles and get onto the agency to provide drivers.

Just received an email. More delays. Having discussions with the CWU on selection criteria...I thought this has been finalised before requesting people to apply for this position.

I find it very annoying and I have a feeling that Royal Mail is trying to eat cake and have it. Strings attached, selection based on god knows what criteria, CWU now involved. Better the devil you know so maybe it's good to stay on deliveries.

I’ve been offered a place on the training scheme. Seems a lot of stipulations to it from what I’m seeing in the contract. Seems to be only up to 7.5 tonne initially.

Was you offered training from this years applications or is it the ones from pre-covid? Is there a link for these contracts aswell? Wouldn't mind having a read of it.

This years batch. They are giving 11 days realise over a 12 week period to do all the training. I’m going to assume after you pass you’ll be just dumped as a reserve at the nearest Mail centre. It also says that you could be required to cover duties one hours travel away from where you are based. For someone in my position who holds their own duty and lives within walking distance of their workplace I’m not sure it’s worth it.

If this is the condition and it only goes to 7.5t initially. If I am not selected I won't be crying. It doesn't seem that attractive especially the obligation to cover ANY duty within an hour from where you live.

I thought they would have put you straight to Class 2 would be more attractive then. Doing it to become a general dogs body reserve working a mix of earlies, lates and nights then I think I’ll give it a miss. With the Mail centre being about half hour drive away compared to my 5 minute journey now I don’t think it’s personally worth it for me.
