Ricky 'I sent it-My work here is done' McAulay
Please see the note below which was sent from Ricky McAulay to all Delivery Managers. (June 2021-Did they listen?)
Recruitment costs us all a lot of time and money and, as part of the Day In the Life Of (DILO) project, we are looking at a number of ways to improve our processes.
One of our biggest frustrations is the high level of attrition we experience with new delivery recruits. This is due to many factors, one of which is an inconsistent induction approach.
To help, we’ve developed a short, easy to follow checklist guide that we want all Delivery Offices to follow to ensure all new recruits are welcomed in the same, positive way, regardless of the office.
It covers pre-arrival, first day, first week and coaching and is a simple and straightforward way to put new entrants at ease and familiarise them quickly with the role.
Follow this (Intranet link )link to download and print the guide. Discuss it with your CWU Rep and WPCs and use it to guide your induction for any new recruits to your unit. Please feedback to us via the Workplace DILO group.
This is further supported by the Trial Procedure Guide, which can be accessed here.(Intranet link) This is a step by step guide through the process of a new recruit trial period, including the process for completion, extension or dismissal.
All documents to support this process can be found on PSP. If you need additional guidance, please contact the People Case Team – 0845 604 2787.
We will have a large number of new starters in June and July this year, so let’s test our new approach and see if it makes a difference.
Thank you for your support.

RMCtv: Ricky McAulay : Consistent induction for new recruits will save time and money
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Does it include treat them like shiv? Pretend you didn't know they were arriving that week? Tell them they can't have a day off next week as we're short staffed? Tell them the WPC is off long term sick so they'll be trained by John the agency guy who's really keen but doesn't speak much English? Put them on the biggest delivery in the office that no one has ever finished on time? If not better redo the checklist Ricky. Also grab your coat on the way out

There is a new entrant agreement in place. There should be a training walk in each office that a new entrant is on for the first 6 weeks and for the first 13 weeks they shouldn't be sent to another office.jessicarabbit wrote: ↑25 Feb 2022, 21:38Does it include treat them like shiv? The CWU get alot of grief but this is a good agreement and is down to local reps to ensure its adhered to. It definitely is my office

Our WPC is the biggest runner + corner cutter going. Actually gets in a huff & sulks when he has to train someone as it interferes with his early dart. Sounds far fetched but it’s really not!
“Shorts,in this weather?!”
“If they’re bills I don’t want ‘em!”
“What’s she been ordering now?”

We've had agreements before and we all know what RM think of them.Jack1960 wrote: ↑26 Feb 2022, 05:44There is a new entrant agreement in place. There should be a training walk in each office that a new entrant is on for the first 6 weeks and for the first 13 weeks they shouldn't be sent to another office.jessicarabbit wrote: ↑25 Feb 2022, 21:38Does it include treat them like shiv? How many other times can they beat around the bush looking for the solution to a problem in the wrong areas before they actually realise why it is the way it is.
It’s certainly not the induction.
It’s getting completely s**t on and shafted as soon as they walk through the door, sink or swim mentality, and even If they swim, do they have the right personality to not get walked all over and abused by the DOM?
Only when this is addressed will you see a better “attrition” ( I hate that terminology) rate, Ricky.

Maybe not giving them contracts which are not achievable and hours which are not appropriate would be a start. Then there’s the bullying straight away when they only want to work the hours they were employed to work…

Don't know about in DOs but in MCs for a good few years it's generally been the H&S stuff then after that it's basically been here's the work, here's the frame, get on with it

As I previously said...
Si has consistently said that new recruits should not be given the runaround and especially the worst duty in the office.
As per the new starters gumpf.
Si consistently says...a lot of things.

Si says we shouldn't prioritise Tracked packets over letters.
