Signing for a duty

There are four duties up in my office for signing. What way does it work? If I was to go for only one duty but someone who was more senior than me had that duty as their fourth choice then would they have preference over me if they missed out on the other three?

It gets messy with any more than a couple of vacancies as there will be people waiting in the wings to try and sign for a duty that someone else will vacate when they fill a vacancy.
If there are 4 vacancies, then it should start at the top of seniority and work down, too many at the top of the list want their cake and eat it.

Personally, I think that any vacancy, unless it's a specialised post, should go straight to reserves.

Why? Seniority is all about loyalty how can it be fair to give dutys to a reserve when perhaps someone who's done said years has been waiting a opportunity to get a duty that he/she has longed for!!!!!! Do the time is only fair away to do it!,it's not about about they want there cake and eat it we all have to start at the bottom!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally, I think that any vacancy, unless it's a specialised post, should go straight to reserves.

It should - for 6 months and then be available for signing.
If all reserves were to be allocated a duty permanently you wouldn't have any reserves left.

Also does a more senior Part timer out do a less senior full timer?

Although a more senior part timer wouldnt be able to able for full time walk would they?

If a full time vacancy exists then yes a more senior part timer would out do a more senior full timer.
If no full time vacancy exists then a part timer can'r sign for it.

If the vacancy is a driving job then no matter how senior the full or part timer they can't sign for it if they don't have a valid driving licence.
Skills would trump seniority.

I'm talking about people who already have a duty, one that they already waited years to get.
A vacancy comes up and they want it, just because they can have it.
Why not just be happy with your lot.
