Hours rolling over

Hi folks.

Can anyone clarify whether the Management can carry your hours over from day to day?

For example, your walk is timed at 5 hours but you manage to complete in 4 yet the following day is heavier so it takes you 6 hours to complete instead of 5.

Is that an hours overtime or is that an "owed hour"?

Seems the understanding of how this works differs between DOs

No owed hours.Ever.You go over it's overtime.You finish early and nothing left to do,you don't owe them.

Excellent. That is what I've always thought for the past 9 years yet I've just transferred to a different DO and all the staff there are under the impression that it's "owed hours"

I wanted to clarify it for my own peace of mind as they won't listen to me.

There is no banking hours agreement, just the flexibility one, with that one you discuss a 30min variation of hrs.

Yes. We used to do the flexible 30 minutes at my last DO but this DO seems to be run to its own rules.

It’s amazing how a complete DO wouldn’t know this , very crafty of management to keep it that way too.

I've moved from a DO with 250 clued-up members to a DO with 20 staff, 19 of whom haven't a clue about agreements.

Unfortunately this is a problem in a number of smaller offices where there is limited knowledge of the agreements, and the Doms play on that coming up with their own rules.

The office I worked in the "Postie" supervisor had a wee book, If the ferry or plane was cancelled and we had a light day our names would go into the book with how many hours we "owed" RM!! Not too sure if it still goes on as I had the good sense to leave.

I've attempted to have that discussion in the past and it's always been shot down in favour of just paying me the time instead of giving me the time back at the end of the week. For some reason they don't want people leaving in a loop on Saturday.

So if offices want to play games with “banking hours” it works both ways. Work your full hours in the week by completing and not booking it then come Saturday you will be over your contracted hours so take it off. Lets see what they say about banking hours then.
