World Outside RM

Post by grandypants »

Retired nearly 2 years ago since then I started work with a well known supermarket stacking shelves, what a breath of fresh air, managers treat you with respect, no pressure and for what we do a decent hourly rate, I only work 20 @ week just to keep me active and I really enjoy the social side of it, so there is a decent side to being away from RM, btw I was there for over 20 years :Very Happy

Do you still get people coming in early unpaid to stack tomorrow's tins of peas?

Snap. I left last year after 25 years, like most I suppose I was "institutionalised", thinking that life outside RM was unthinkable. How wrong I was.

Decent company/pay/terms and conditions, managers who realise that if you treat your employees with respect it yields huge returns, no pressure, weekends off, pleasant working atmosphere.

My only regret about leaving?......that I didn't do it sooner.

I've worked in different jobs before I started in RM, I do have experience of life out of RM, while working conditions can vary the money RM pays do compare very well with the private sector, it never used to be and you had to work overtime to make up some money, I needed a regular payslip to get a mortgage, in the end I'm glad I worked in RM when it really was a cushy job, not so much now, instead I'm marking time to retirement.

Though there always seems to be steady stream of returnees who clearly found that the grass most definitely was not greener.

I know a few but I guess if it wasn't for the pandemic ruining their jobs they would have never returned.

One or 2, maybe even more, but not a steady stream. But then it is YOU posting.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

In all my years we have had ONE person attempt to return, he took no s**t from the screws so he was blackballed.

"Not enough experience" was the excuse!?
