RMCtv : Make your own safeplace when you want next year?

Post by POSTMAN »

First off, you lot are crap anyway, let me remind you of Phil...
RMCtv : 7 Years without bringing back a parcel, that's SEVEN years!

Then there is the 'denial of receipt' problemo's...
RMCtv : Ricky McAulay : Trust is kept when we scan on the doorstep : The business receives over 1,000 Denial of Receipt complaints each week.

Remember Si saying he wants '100% 1st time delivery of everything' and 'we need a brilliant safe place solution….'

Recent Q&A regarding the tiresome problems of p739's and wouldn't it be easier to just safe place the stuff so I can get on quicker, OPG's discussing why can't we do this and do that as it's easier and quicker.

Nick 'Put it behind a bin so we can give you more work to do' Landon

It's something we're looking at right now and absolutely, i'd like to make that the case.

So Royal Mail has a responsibility and the reputation to uphold when it comes to the trust of our customers.

This is the reason why safe places has always been restricted to items where explicit instructions are on the label.

But at the same time, we're very much awhere that front line colleagues know their walks and their customers well, better than anyone else, and in many cases, could make a decision as to whether leaving an item in a suitable location would be appropriate.

That's why we now looking at exactly that.

There's a project on the way which will explore the opportunities to enabled us to make better use of the safe places and delivery method, both as a standing preference from customers and based on what the postie knows and is used to doing and we intend to launch that over the next year.

We're still in the early stages of the engagement with all of our internal external stakeholders on that, to understand how best to approach it.

I can't really share the details of that until we do it because we need to make sure that everyone has input.

But as soon as we have an update on that we'll let you know, and the improvements in that, well we can all see, what we, the benefits could be of doing that so very much this is close to the top of our agenda for developments this year and we'll let you know as soon we're there.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Give me strength. :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

Accept it or not. A large percentage of postman already doorstep safely. There will always be those that only write dockets because they fear for their jobs but then come in early or moan to managers that other people are making time. I accept that as a reserve you don't really get to know the rounds so dockets are the safest course of action. But when you have been feeding Mrs Jones her eBay shoe fettish for the last 3 years you know she doesn't want to go and pick them up from the counter and queue in the rain to be insulted and told we can't find it it's not been booked in yet. You and her have an understanding that she wants it left behind the bin. If we formalise this in some way great. If not me and Mrs Jones don't care we are still going to carry on the way we have for the last 3 years.

Until Mrs Jones eBay packet goes missing from her "safe place"? Do you think Mrs Jones will be happy? Or will she be fed up that her eBay purchase has gone missing and therefore must claim through customer services?

But is it really quicker to "safe place" it ? I reckon I could fill out a 739 faster than it would take me to go fannying about finding a garden shed then still writing out a note saying parcel in your greenhouse or wherever.

No doubt at all the Amazon/others routine of just dumping it on the doorstep is faster, and I suspect this method is preferred as the savings in delivery costs as opposed to doing it properly like we currently have to probably exceed the costs incurred from sending replacements for denial of receipt claims.

Everyone uses the old ok til it goes wrong excuse. Personally in my long and fruitful career at RM I've never had a denial of receipt claim levelled at me. Lucky? Or I just know what my customers want.... you decide

I’ve had this one house had a box outside with a note on the door saying “ Do not knock the door leave all parcels in box “. I took picture of such note and left the parcel in the box and guess what happened a few days later? Manager asks me where the parcel is as they said they haven’t got it. Showed the manager picture of the note and the box and also took a picture on the PDA when I delivered it. Personally I wouldn’t trust any of the customers and the safe place was never used again.

As a rule of thumb I never believe or trust a note on the outside of door or window, anyone could of put it there.

Nothing happens anyway we have 2 guys at our place in a shared van who have complaints everywhere as I sometimes work late in office so I’ve seen how many! The floater also says people always moaning about miss delivery and parcels left outside some have gone missing nd others soaking wet! They seem to get away with it as manager too lightweight to discipline them so they just carry on, it seems like you have to commit murder for anything to be said to some people

Did they not see that survey in which Hermes were ranked down at the bottom and we were in the top three? Obviously the route to #1 is to copy the worst

Amazon ('s at arms-length delivery arm) will mostly be dealing with new items and therefore quite easily replaceable with another example straight off the shipping pallet. Believe me, I've seen the mountain of Jamie Oliver Christmas cookbooks. As for Hermes, there have been many articles in the news section where they throw employees under the bus when an items goes missing. Their T&Cs incentivise doorstepping but they react with faux shock when it goes wrong and gets media attention. We can expect no less.
The machine stops.

Beware the Cheshire cat when he is smiling.

They may eventually allow the front line staff to doorstep, but you can be sure there will be a sting in the tail.

Dismissal on the first false non-receipt claim ?
Postie expected to cover costs ?

I will only doorstep when access is only available to me and the resident. If you can't lock it behind you ITS NOT SAFE.

Until your DOM decides to cut hours from the office, and conducts those with repeat denial of recipient complaints out of a job?

I can sympathise with this view point JR. RM state one thing ... Posties do another. I think a lot of us Leave Packets, with the agreement of the Resident , that might not strictly comply to RM's Safe Place criteria. When making these arrangements I always make one proviso: Any complaints about parcels going missing and you'll be travelling to the DO to collect them in future.

I'm lucky in that I'm the Duty Holder and know my Residents well, I can appreciate it's different for Reserves who don't know the area. I'll never bollock them for leaving 739s (as happened to me as a Reserve, "Why did you bloody bring that lot back..... I've got to take it back out .... they're a Good Tipper .... I don't want to upset them etc"?) I'll explain to the Resident the next day if they ask why their packet wasn't left and give them their options for local collect or redelivery. IMO it's part of the Duty Holders job to educate their Residents about the ever changing mail system because RM never advertise ANYTHING!

It always makes me laugh when Posties have been doing something for years and then RM have a Brain Storm and suggest doing just that: Preparing all D2Ds on a Monday and just doing a "Warm" delivery for example. :cuppa
