Rotational day off

Why are positions advertised with this when you don’t get it as a new start? Do you have to be there a certain length of time to get rotational days off? Thanks

Of course not.You are entitled to be treated the same as any of member of staff.If your office operates 1 in 6 that's yours to have.
If not get a Rep on the case, should only take a few minutes to sort.

guessing you're a reserve, think you need to clarify what sort of day off you are asking about,
1-in-6 then yes, 1 day off p/w but probably won't involve a regular mon off then tues then weds etc.
what you need to look is the hours you actually work and if you search within this forum then no doubt you will be working for free
technically the rota should be put up 3 weeks in advance (i think) but 3 hours is closer to the mark

Until you get your own duty a rotational day off doesn't tend to happen. It's just another s**t hand dealt to reserves and no political will to get it sorted as it doesn't affect the duty holders.

I'm going to take it up with Area tomorrow. Not holding my breath. Last time it went up to Area the upshot was "if you want a Saturday ask the screws". Yeah THAT worked, NOT. If I get no joy this time I'm out of the union, I think they've had quite long enough to get this sorted.

Yeah I think you’re 100% right here. There doesn’t seem much point being part of the Union unless you have your own duty. For me it’s not even about getting the Saturday off in 6 (never had one off in 8 months) it’s just about being able to plan anything in advance. You can’t even book a doctors appointment in this job! If you ask for a Wednesday off in 10 weeks time, you get the whole “there’s 5 in front of you for that” it’s crazy. Surely it would help with absenteeism to just get reserves on rotation aswel. Genuinely baffles me, I’ve never had a sick day in any job I’ve ever had, but feeling like this is the only way I’m ever going to have any kind of work/life balance in this place. Let me know how you get on, I will also speak to the rep at my office but don’t have much hope

I’m glad we have wally weeks at ours. Less scope for shaftage unlike rotational days where you can bet you bottom dollar it’s the same folks, part timers etc always getting the Tuesday off, or not even knowing your day off until a day or so before. At least on Wally week it’s something consistent and to look forward to.

Still no word from on high. I had given the office rep the benefit of the doubt but it looks like I'll have to chase it up myself.
