There isn't a YES or No answer to your question it depends on circumstances and how each side handles it. But if you get medical advice/evidence to show it will benefit your recovery and you approach your manager before going on it, then it shouldn't be a problem, normally.

Be open and honest but don't be surprised if they don't agree.

As above link, a few years ago a mate was off long term with stress type issues and his doctor actually advised that getting away would help, also I'm pretty sure you could manage to go on holiday for example recovering from a still healing broken leg although that would prevent us from working in this job.

Depends on your managers, this is always a tough question.
One answer tho is you can't be taken off sick, then put on holiday, then put back on sick at the stroke of a keyboard.
I'm sure we've discussed that scenario before on here.

As you continue to earn annual leave entitlement
while on the sick, you cannot be on annual leave and recorded as sick at the same time
