Part timers do full time duty manager claiming only needing to pay hours worked..

Post by postmanzach »

Where can I find something official on this old argument. New manager trying to fiddle numbers with new part timers.

Sorry but hes right. Best way round it is for the p/t to actually work 35 hours.

No that can’t be right as full timer can work exact same hours as a part timer finish an hour early then then part timer takes home less pay, that’s not right. We have had this disagreement with a previous manager and agreed that it couldn’t happen I’m just looking for an official statement lab or something about it.

You'll not find an official statement. The only thing is the way forward agreement which has something in it about all paid hours being worked. Your disagreement needs to be about staff finishing early and not being given work e. G. Lapsing, prepping d2ds, cleaning their van or whatever to fulfill their hours not an argument to get paid for hours you haven't worked

You will make yourself very unpopular if you kick-off about other people finishing early, if you are that worried about the money then work the hours you want paying for & don't worry what others are doing or not doing

There is no such agreement as others have said.
It's about negotiating, ya want me to do Bobs duty instead of my 4-5-6 hrs etc contract hrs then you pay me Bobs duty hrs.
Bit like negotiating docket for failed walks, there has to be an incentive.
It works both ways, how desperate is the screw to get the duty covered?

The only prob with this is if the OPG is a newbie and on a temp or fixed term contract because he will then be 'pressured' to do it the screws way.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I’m not kicking off I just feel sorry for this new getting done over. Got full timer routinely will finish their round and in the dirty time as well as 2-3 hours over time off another duty (ghosting) and getting done early still, cleared over 30k this year already. Then this nee guy is getting told he only gets paid for what he does.

But nearly all part timers start 2 hours after the full timers. So to do the full time duty they would have to be paid to come in "early" that's how it works.

Full time posties for example 6 - 2
Part time 8 - 2
Full and part time posties have the same finish times in all delivery offices I've been to. So the DOM is either paying me to come in early to make me full time or not. How is it possible to make a part timer 6 - 12 and try and then refuse to pay them on the back end of the shift??

Your confusing things. What I’m saying is if me and a part timer start at the same time both finish an hour early, he’s getting paid an hour less than me, that’s discrimination.

Getting paid for the hours you work is not discrimination.

Them finishing an hour early when paid if there is work available, then that is unfair. The manager should be fair and make them work all their paid hours.

I am saying this as a less than 30-hour Part-Timer and ex Full Timer.

So I agree in principle, but if you want to make an issue of it, claiming discrimination is probably the wrong avenue of approach, you might get more traction from the unfairness of allowing them to finish early.

A part timer should not be starting the same time as the full timer! Either the part timer starts at 8am and his partner throws most of his walk off or if the part timer is covering a full time duty the part timer is payed extra for coming in early.thats the way its been since I started.

If you are determined to fight this cause you'll end up with more work for yourself rather than more pay for your colleague.

We have a couple at ours that do exactly this BUT the part timer finishes an hour earlier than the full timer.

As someone on a 24-hour contract.

I almost always get asked to come in early. And always have ATD to add, the amount depends on shift. Even if I finish early I'd still be putting the full ATD for the shift in. Not that I ever really finish early, so often have excess/ pressure or whatever to add on. I don't really care as long as I get paid for what I do.

So no full-timer is getting paid more than me for finishing early. Except those with easy rounds that can fit in hours of ghosting and those on a better wage.
I'm turning purple!
