Holidays rolling over when I want to take them

I started in October and haven't taken any annual leave. The managers have said there isn't any available holiday for the rest of this annual leave period and I can't take any. Is this legal? I don't want it to roll over - I want the time off. I've had a look and the law says that employers are allowed to deny specific time periods but you have to be allowed to take your holidays. Do I have any recourse for this? I know I'm far from the only one experiencing this at my office but the failure of the managers shouldn't mean that I suffer because of it.

When you started did they not ask you if you had any leave to take? If so, they should have honoured it.

They cannot say you can't take leave due in the relevant leave year.

They can tell you when to take it within that year but they cannot demand you roll it over or take pay in lieu.

It is against the law for RM to deny you leave in the leave year it's due. It is breach of both contract and statute. Politely tell them so.

If they don't budge, get your rep on it ASAP and if you've no joy within a week from them, seek legal counsel.

They did, and they honoured it, but I literally had a few days here and there with things planned. I didn't think they meant for me to say all of the days off I would want for the period.

Yeah I thought that would be the case - I know they can tell me when to take it and that's fine, but I didn't think forcing it to roll over would be okay!

All annual leave plans for 2021/22 will need to be completed for each office by the 31st October 2020 in line with
section 4 of the Way Forward Agreement.

The manager is a lazy arse and full of it.
Possible chances are the plans weren't finished by that date anyway.
Get the rep on to it.

I have the same issue. Started mid September and have had no leave whatsoever. 80+ hours to take. Have brought the issue up a few times last few weeks, but still awaiting an outcome. If I have to wait until my first official leave for 22/23, I'll have worked 7 months straight, including my last month in my old job.

Try knocking on your writing room door and see what the clerk says.
Writing Room staff should be feeling the heat about untaken leave.

Officially you can only carry 1 weeks leave into the next year.

If they still won't budge I'd talk to your union rep.

They can't deny you leave just because there are no leave slots.

In my place, we honour it in this situation although it has to go through the manager via annual leave form.

Officially you can only carry 1 week's leave into the next year.

And, importantly, that week's leave may only be carried over if you agree to carry it over and Royal Mail agrees (though RM's agreement for a week's carry-over is usually taken for granted as per the policy).

Definitely going to have a conversation with Union rep as you say, because even though I've mentioned it a few times now in previous weeks, nothing official so guess they can do as they like. Management are insisting its being looked at.

i can see next year an even bigger cluster f**k with folk carrying leave over, i've my original weeks booked in already but got around 30hrs carry over and no where to fit it in, add 2 projected bank holiday credits then i'll be banging on the door too later in the year
maybe a plea bargain for a few extra sat/mon off will suffice, depends on the manager i guess
