Driving Academy

Hi everyone I'm a little confused regarding the driving academy and was wondering if anyone could shed some light. I'm aware that if you are selected and you sign the contract, you then HAVE to apply for the first vacant duty that comes up within 1 hour to your home/work address. This is absolutley fine, but for example if you don't have a lot of seniority there's no way you would get the job. So what happens then? Is it a case of you stay doing your regular delivery round until you end up getting a job driving? It could be years until a driving job is advertised and you have enough seniority to actually get it. It seems stupid for Royal Mail to pay for your training and license if there's a chance you could be waiting years to get a driving job. How does it all work? Thanks

There’s no contract to be signed yet and I think there weaning them all down how many years do you have in? You’ll basically have to cover all sick a senses and may well be on call u til you get a duty is it really worth it ?

The amount of agency drivers suggests there are plenty of vacant duties knocking about so there should be an opportunity to get a one. I will jump at the chance if I get the opportunity, even though it will mean me having a 45 miles drive each way to get to work. The 3 and 4 shift attendance patterns appeal to me

Try collaring the driver that brings the mail to your do, just for info really but he/she should be able to give advice as to what amount of duties are vacant at your mailcentre.

Where does ELDC go to from jubilee mail centre and what does it stand for

I assume you mean the marking on the truck? ELDC closed some years ago I am sure, and if I am correct it was East London Dist Centre, which is now swallowed up by PRDC. Open to correction if I am wrong

I think they have temporary site somewhere in West thrruck according to Google search
