Last Monday I did my back in quite bad and I’ve been off work since,I spoke to nhs 111 number who gave me normal advice and says I don’t need doctors note after 7 days, it’s now self cert until 28 days.Manager phone up yesterday saying I need doctors note as been 7 days, I explained we don’t need one but he said that was only December and I need one in January but I spoke to doctors surgery today and they say d he’s wrong, can someone tell me which one is correct as government website clearly states 28 days before note!

If they started their sick leave before 10 December 2021, they must give proof if they’ve been ill for more than 7 days.

Fit notes and proof of sickness
Employees must give their employer a doctor’s ‘fit note’ (sometimes called a ‘sick note’) if they’ve been ill for more than 28 days in a row and have taken sick leave. This includes non-working days, such as weekends and bank holidays.

Wonder if PSP hasn't been updated with the 28 day rule and PSP has triggered a prompt for the manager to ask for a sick note

Yes manager under pressure and trying to get me in n tomorrow as 4 gone sick this week, I shall tell him tomorrow to check this properly. It annoys me as I haven’t been sick for nearly 3 years yet others are regularly sick and he’s hassling me to come in but I’m still in too much discomfort to work, Thanks for this

The 28 days self cert was a temporary change to the rules and finished on 26th January. Government website is now fully updated with 7 days self cert reinstated as the norm.

Yes you are correct thanks, but if you started sick before the 26th, you can still self cert up to 28 days without doctors note, it’s seven days for new cases from 26 th.
