Broken Service

Post by abuch1980 »

Why aren't posties with Broken years service added to their total years service especially when it comes to seniority. It makes no sense that someone who started in say 2015 is more senior to someone who started in 2001 but left for a few years came back and then left again and came back again. Surely you should still have seniority over someone who started in 2015.

This is one of the stipulations in the way forward agreement, strangely enough previous service counts towards holiday entitlement though, I agree it would have been simpler to include all previous service for seniority reasons but nothing seems to be straightforward in this firm.

How can you prove you have worked there before, as after a couple of years it seems the records are cleared, talking from experience, as I found it hard to prove I had worked there before. If anyone can throw light on how to prove it it would be appreciated as I would be entitled to 6 weeks now

No you left so of course you wont have more seniority. Theyve not kept the job open while youve decided where you want to work and if theres been big gap between you coming back theyve got to shell out retraining you up to modern standard.

I have to agree! if you decide to leave then you essentially give up all accrued benefits/entitlements etc. Just because you decide to come back shouldnt mean you can just pick up where you left off. Other industries wouldnt/dont allow it.

Your best bet is contact HR and ask for a pension statement
That will reference any previous service

You can also send Royal Mail a Data Subject Access Request and specifically request periods of previous service be released

All previous service counts towards annual leave entitlement

I thought holiday entitlement wasnt affected by breaks in service? Just seniority
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Correct.
You lose seniority.
But your service is added up for holiday purposes.
