Driver in need of help from cwu !!

I have been asked to take my driving licience in for the 6 month check, while in the room we are asked to sign to say we have read the drivers manual and understand it.
I have not read the manual like others and have been told if i don't sign i will be taken off the driving !!

I would be willing to sign if we were given time at work to read the manual but why should i read it in my own time.

my question is can they take me off the driving for not signing ?

Yes mate they can take you off driving because the law states that the company has to ensure all licenses are up to date and correct, rubbish i know.
I haven't bothered to read the manual either. It might be worth giving it a very quick browse through just to cover your own ass.

They are just about to issue a Driving Folder to all drivers, I was shown one on Tuesday when I had my licence check. It'll be all the small print, if you don't do this, we'll do you for it etc.

I wouldn't mind being taken off driving duties but alas they won't do it :sad:

I wonder if this should also apply to those dickheads that use their cars on delivery. Perhaps we should be pushing RM to issue the same folders to delivery staff, after all, they have to bring in their drivers licence and insurance doc's, so I take it they should be covered by the same rules.

The plain answer is YES they can take you off driving, and RM probably couldnt give a rats ass if you dont actually read the manual, you've been issued one and the law wont care whether or not you had not been given time to read in works time, its your license/job thats at stake not RM's!!!

If they don't give you the time to read manual.

Then do not refuse to sign, just inform them in writing that you will sign once RM give you the time to read the manual, also ask the question "are you instructing me to sign something, that you have not provided any time to read?" and "Are you refusing to give me the time i need to read the manual?" and "Is this RM Policy?"

Ask the DOM in your letter to him to reply in writing and to answer your question within 48hrs.

If you feel that DOM is bullying you to sign, inform the DOM in your letter that this is how you feel and you may feel compelled to submit B&H claim.

Great reply also do they also declare to there insurance that they use there cars for other uses,

Yet some drivers have never been asked even if they have a driving license and have never been told of a Driving Manual !

Let them take you off driving,i bet they wont and you can always remind them that its thier O'Licence and if they care to look at the law which as a manager they should know what applys because they are responsable for that bit as part of thier job responsability,the other bit is to tell the manager to look into vicarious liability,postie speek the buck stops with them.Its about time some of these twat managers woke up and smelt the coffee.
