Would RM give me annual leave if they weren't thinking of keeping me?

Post by Carefree »

I joined RM five months ago and was given a 6 month temp contract. Of course it is coming up to that date and I’m wondering if I’ll be kept on. I’ve not had any feedback on whether I’lll stay but I’ve had no major issues thus far. I’ve also been given my annual leave for 22-23 so I assume they’re thinking of keeping me?

Well............... yes and no. Don't read too much into it.

If they were definitely getting rid of you they wouldn't give you a leave plan. However, if they were unsure if you were being kept on, then I think they have to plan for your leave just in case.

So sorry it's not a definite answer either way, but sorting out your leave is a good sign rather than a bad one.

They need the staff. If you’ve managed ok and haven’t been off sick too much then it’s in your favour. I was in the same boat as you with the contract. I ended up staying 39 years but they kept me in the dark for nearly a year. I hope this reassures you.

I'm the same. I've only got a 5hr Sunday contract, although I've been working 6 days a week since I started. My 6 months ends in April. Manager asked me last week to say what days holidays I'd like from April-March. I said sure I might not have a job after April. He said put them in anyway just in case. I can't see them letting you go, but I can't guarantee anything...
It certainly would be nice to have some idea about my future, but it is what it is.
