No Return To Work Given

Post by DICKIEG »

Colleague was off several months ago and not given return to work at the time, they have now been asked into the office and asked to do their return to work. Any advice please, and how can this affect any future abscences

A return to work plays no part if an Attendance Review if issued or not. It is nothing more than a statutory risk assessment on the employer if the employee can return to duties. Examples being if on medication that makes you drowsy while driving, etc

Make a note that the return to work was late in being done. As above, it won't make any difference to the stage being issued...but, further down the line, should your colleague end up in a COD situation, these things can assist the rep dealing with the matter.

Any mitigating circumstances such as this could help show management weren't following procedure, especially if any further absences were linked to the first and might have been supported and thus avoided by a return to work meeting.

In my last job RTW had to be done before u started your shift .You was not allowed on shop floor .This was to check if u was ok to work and make sure u got full support if any issues. This covered employee and employer. Never known company to do it after your shift. Does anybody know if there is an official policy on when RTW should be done.

Like most Royal Mail/CWU agreements, always open to interpretation.
As stated previously, the RTW is a statutory risk assessment on the employer and employee. If none was held and any individual suffered a detriment in that duty time, faeces will hit the fan for negligence.

Welcome back meeting
• Following any period of absence, an
informal Welcome Back meeting will be
held between the employee and their
manager, ideally on the first day back
• The purpose of the meeting is to:
– Acknowledge the employee’s return
and show that his or her attendance
is valued
– Enable the employee to air any concerns
and to see if help can be given to
encourage regular attendance
– Discuss the reason for the absence
– Offer any support Royal Mail can provide
– Ensure that the employee is fit for work
– Ensure that the absence is properly
certificated
– Discuss if appropriate whether
re-occurrence of absence is likely
• This discussion should be sympathetic
and supportive
• If it is felt that there is an underlying
health issue which has not been
previously identified, the manager should
consider a referral to the Occupational
Health Service.

NATIONAL ATTENDANCE PROCEDURE 2013
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

"Ideally on the first day back"

"Should consider"

Like most Royal Mail/CWU Agreements

A matter of interpretation to be abused, and not compliance
