Hi all, I hold an Italian Driving Licence, I have applied as a Postperson but they put me on the waiting list, a couple of days later another Delivery Office called me to offer me the job start date on 20th December. I've accepted and I was in the pre-employment checks.
Now, I've already mentioned initially at the interview and later if my Italian licence would be a problem, they said it's ok and even my line manager confirmed she would be happy for me to start work for the Royal Mail with that.. the day after called me saying that it appeared that I cannot drive until I have my UK Driving Licence. I already prepared all the documentation to send to DVLA since the interview because I thought it was the problem that I didn't score higher and I said that it will take up to 3 weeks the process and they agreed. Lastly, they've sent a formal offer.
At the moment I've sent my exchange application to DVLA last Friday and it would take 3 weeks and I will start at the delivery office on 21st December but what I will do my first/two weeks without a driving licence? I mean it sounds weird that I will start even without having done my pre-employment checks... Is a permanent role 25hr a week.

Re: Weird
Nowadays most deliveries are done by 2 people in one van so you won't need to drive.
Also, Royal Mail won't allow (or rather shouldn't) anyone to drive until they have completed an assessment drive with an approved instructor (normally AA or RAC).
In essence, it won't be a problem that you have to wait for your licence, even if it takes longer than 3 weeks which, looking at the news, seems highly likely.

Re: Weird
Omg really? So would be possible to work with Royal Mail without driving for 13 weeks? I'm waiting for my payroll number to order the uniform and to log in to my Welcome Programme on 20th December then 21th at the delivery office...

Yes, as long as you keep your manager informed. They will be aware of the delays at DVLA. They may ask for confirmation but I don't think that's likely.
