Pay rise 2022 prospects

Post by blacov »

Royal Mail is clearly failing to deliver on the USO as letters get left in the frames for days and this is the case in most DOs across the country.
We are experiencing soaring prices of essentials and from April 2022 we will all take a pay cut as national insurance contribution aka health levy is going live.
We are experiencing unprecedented work loads and are often battered by absences. Our union leaders were recently very quiet and many of us are actually led to believe they are in this together with Royal Mail.
When they do show up our wages don't get mentioned at all. I am wondering what are they going to do, clearly financial situation can't be that bad as Royal Mail can afford to offload £400m in special dividends. Yet every day we battle with undoable work loads, struggle with staff absences new recruitment is being frozen, and those recently recruited leave. Not only new starters leave but also long serving staff with years of experience and they do not get replaced. Morale and quality of service at its lowest ever. Where does this company go? Surely these days they can't brag about the pay especially in the offices in the south east of England and around London. In my opinion if royal mail will not reward its people and continue with this business strategy to prioritise shareholder's profits this company will be going to the wall sooner or later. Surely we should expect a generous pay offer but I have a feeling this will not come and this year may be the last for many of us working in the deliveries as some will try to jump ship and move to mail centres, distribution or leave the company.

At last someone talking sense. I will be no worse off as come April I will have cancelled my union subs. I’m not far from 40 years service and consider myself a very good employee with hardly any sick and still as fit as a flee, and putting the younger generation to shame. My van partner is in the same boat as me and we were hoping to maybe do another 5 plus years. After this Christmas we both are dreading future Christmases and like the rest of my office agree this was the worst time ever in all these years. I am currently thinking this will probably be my last year.
We are losing employees like I’ve never seen before. I feel it will never get better only worse and I don’t think I can ride the storm anymore. It’s time to jump ship I’m afraid. Many more 20 year plus people feel exactly the same, and the money is no longer good for all the stress and physical hard work you have to put in. Even your weekends are messed up now in this more family friendly job. Rant over, so glad I’m not a newbie because I wouldn’t make the first year in deliveries.

With NI rising 1.25% in April and the cost of inflation rising something close to 8%, we should receive a record breaking pay rise, know many that will leave if we get shafted again

The NI rise is the least of your worries. The domestic energy price cap also gets removed in April and this could well cost you £15-20 a WEEK which will affect you vastly more than the few quid a week extra in NI. Be afraid. Very afraid.

I could not have put this better myself.

One thing is absolutely concrete....it is not going to get any better whatsoever. The best you could hope for is that is stays as bad as it is now.

As I have said before, I left earlier this year after 25 years and I have not looked back nor regretted it one single bit, my only regret being that I didn't leave a couple of years earlier when the rot started to set in.

I have never felt so good in myself, and now with an employer who values its employees. Not once have I got up and dreaded going to work since I left. Your body and mental health is worth so much more.

I was so proud to be a postie when I started, proud to be driving the vans, proud to wear the uniform. So very sad to see these posts from such long serving employees with postie blood running through their veins.

Whatever Royal Mail gives us as a pay rise you can be sure they will want the shirts off our backs in return.

Anything below an 8% payrise we will still be below inflation

8% of £13 is £1.04, not the exact rate we're on but a rough guide

thanks, so anyone agree that very very rough figures for£1.04 per hour, would cost about £7million extra per week in payroll (cira £370 million per annum)

Still less than 400m for dividend payment. Speaking of calculation £12.05 is the basic pay so 8% would be £0.96 so our pay we would jump up to £13.01. However if this would be applicable to all the allowances, like London allowance, delivery supplement I bet they will argue it is totally unaffordable.

I have a feeling Simon and Co have no plans for any pay rise. In their head we will be liable for a pay rise anyway as we are losing or at least meant to lose an hour off the working week. In fact that would leave us even with less time to deliver unmanageable workloads, would add extra pressure on already overworked staff and most importantly will mean that a full time postie gets paid £0 extra. So in fact with the health tax from April and inflation and soaring living costs we are considerably worse off.

I bet many will be leaving, especially those relatively young or close to retirement age as these days £12 per hour is quite readily attainable. It actually baffles me that directors fail to notice downgrading morale, visible especially in delivery department. Staff retention is a difficult thing too. Especially that new starters are given not only part time contracts, but are also pressured into working overtime that is poorly paid. Not to mention lack of training and stability. They want to be a parcel company and that is fine but they are not ready for it and I doubt they will ever get ready so the obvious step is to drop the letters as at the moment they acting like an anchor.

I can see it will eventually become another courier company with poor pay, conditions and shocking service quality. Company with huge staff turnover, basically just another plc on the market trying to desperately hold on to the former glory that at time will be long gone with already retired posties.

Correction. The price cap is not being removed! It is being re evaluated in the usual manner and is expected to rise 40% based on the previous 6 months. Removed would suggest they could charge what they want!

Costs have to be passed onto the end customer, it’s the same for any business. There is clearly going to be a dispute over it, meanwhile the great exodus will accelerate.
