Fit/Sick note Expiry Date Query? date to go back in??

Post by sixfoottwo »

Quicky guys n gals.

I've been off on the sick for over a month and just seen the Docs who have gave me an extension note saying to 14/12/2021 which is Tue ( tried getting Xmas off but no joy lol!) so my question is do i go back on the 14th or 15th??

Probably a stupid question but not been off sick for 25yrs (lucky me!)

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply but as suspected the DIM rang me today expecting me in on the 14th

I politely told him I'll be in on the 15th as per the Docs note but he wasn't having it :mad

I read this from your link

5. The period that your doctor’s advice covers. This will either be from the date of the assessment (Box 1), or between a particular start and end date. These dates are inclusive (so a fit note dated from 2 April to 10 April will no longer apply from 11 April onwards). This section may cover a previous period if your doctor thinks that your condition has affected your fitness for work before your assessment. This can be for any time up to an indefinite period.

So is it 110% the 15th (day after the date on the sick note) I go in?? reading that it is or am i being thick :confused or the DIM being er DIM!

Thanks.

Sick note dates off work are inclusive, so if Dr wrote until 14th, you are not due at work until 15th unless you genuinely feel fit to return to work earlier.

See section 5 of "Explaining the sections of the sick note."

Hi, I've gone back after being off sick. Your final day of sick is the date on the note, 14 th. You go back to work on the 15 th if you are fit to return. Ask your union rep to convey this to your DOM. Also send a txt or email to your manager so you have it writing.

If you still feel unwell to return to work come 14th (the final day of your valid note), contact your doctor and ask for a sick/fit note extension, letting work know what is going on if your request hasn't been resolved by the time you arranged to phone office.
