sat start times
Today our area rep had a meeting with our som, his boss and some branch officals in gmc regarding sat start times in the KA/DG area. A prefrence excercise over the past week is that most units want to stay at 5am start. At this meeting the area rep was told 5am was not an option but a comprmise of 5.30 was there area rep then informed them its not his decision but the whole area memberships and the feeling was strong for a 5am start per agreement. What disappoints me most is our branch officals procceeded to tell our area rep he should be looking to compromise because if we have to go to a rule 13 ballot the branch are not sure if they will get the support from all the units in the area but there is a strong feeling that if you give in to RM on this then RM will only break more of the agreement in the future this branch and this union want to get there finger out there arse and start backing the posties they should be telling RM theres YOUR agreement and you should be adhereing to it. Tomorrow there is a meeting with all unit reps in the area at 6.30am with managers and branch officals to sort this out but im going to have a right go at these branch officals if they dont back us we know RM agenda it about time we set ours.Losing patience with the men above in the CWU

Dear Colleagues,
Saturday Attendances in Delivery Offices
Further to the relevant clause in the national agreement, representatives will also recall the exchange of correspondence between Steve Cameron and I, where he stated that the default date for reversion would be the 12th January 2008. On that basis the last Saturday that anyone will have to carry out the imposed times is this Saturday 5th January 2008.
Therefore all Delivery Offices who have not already reverted and who wish to do so should now be in a position to revert to the previous Saturday attendance times.
A copy of Mr Cameron’s letter clarifying this point is attached.
The purpose of this e-mail/letter is to ask you to confirm with the Outdoor Department, through your appropriate Divisional Representative, that the reversion programme will be completed on time, and if not, the reason why.
A timely response to this request would be appreciated.
Yours sincerely
Bob Gibson
Assistant Secretary

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

We had a committee meeting today and the default position is as it was in your office before the later starts were imposed - that is the National agreement.
So as far as my committee and area officials understand it, if management want later starts or any changes to the Saturday attendance patterns, they have to get our agreement so they have to compromise not the members/workers.
IMHO this is a "Line in the sand" issue, we should stand firm and try to get what the local membership want, as if we compromise or let Management "win" this, then this year will be very bloody with trench warfare popping up everywhere.

If that was what it was before the imposed later starts then unfortunately it will stand. However, if not, as the agreement states,Senior Service wrote:In our office i have heard that they have told the rep that there will be a condition that no one can cut off saturday and they want him to sign it!
So as I read it the can try to introduce no cut off's after the JWG(2) but not before.• Saturday start times and the overall length of attendance on a Saturday will remain as before unless agreed otherwise locally
• Saturday attendances will be reviewed in the Joint Working Group (2) as part of the introduction of a new delivery model
Make sure reps knows he cant sign off on it without your members agreement.

Today we had some bullshit letter saying that as part of the new agreement we can revert to our original start times for Saturdays only.
Good news hey...is it fcuk.
Conditions, the van bringing the mail to your office will not arrive earlier, you will not be paid for starting earlier and that all mail must be delivered. So I can start 30 mins earlier and do nothing, but not allowed to cut off. Another example of the s**t RM gives us and the union, which the union accept. RM give the choice to revert but not reason to and they can say that they have provided the opportunity for me to start earlier on Saturdays. Yet another hoodwinking of the CWU by

Exactly right and the advice from HQ (Bob Gibson) to Area reps / branches is clear. There are no comprimises. People shouldn't worry about whether there would be support for a strike. Just take it through the disagreement process and at stage 3 the Div Rep can go to HQ for advice and they would force RM to abide by Agreement. I think its just certain managers / areas trying it on!! If you don't get any joy just contact you Branch (first) and then HQTrueBlueTerrier wrote:We had a committee meeting today and the default position is as it was in your office before the later starts were imposed - that is the National agreement.

Re: night shift start times
I will say this till AL and AC and all their stiring managers can understand it. The agreement says that duty and attendance times will revert back to what they were beforeharrybean wrote:in my office our start time was 10.30pm- 0645am monday to friday and midnight-6.45 am sunday with restweek. our hours now are midnight-8.00am each day, we have asked to have early finish for saturday 11.00pm start friday night with 7.00am finish saturday but told no chance.we only have 8 working till 8.00am anyway with 200+ delivery staff. is this right days can but nights can't revert back.
This simple sentence does not say, DOMs and SOMs can add to the duties, it does not say day staff only, it does not say that they can extend the working day, it does not say MS3 must go, it does not say you will loose out on the flexibility payment/increase, and whatever else they try to tell you• Saturday start times and the overall length of attendance on a Saturday will remain as before unless agreed otherwise locally
I can't say it any easier than this: Saturday Duties will revert back without any changes, unless locally agreed. If you did not do it before they cannot tell you to do it when we change, unless you agree to it. No ifs, but or maybes that is the situation.
This is a rare one we have them needing to come to us to ask if they can make changes rather than them being able to impose it, and give them their due some Managers appear not to be able to cope with this shattering concept so they revert back to type.

Management in Glasgow have made it clear there will be NO return to 5am Saturday starts, whatever the agreement says.
The Network is not changing back -mail will still arrive at the time it does now and they cant risk people cutting off /failing mail.
The compromise is 530 in my office. I have been asked if we are willing to walk in support of a 5 am start. Some offices might, but I doubt mine would over half an hour.

in devon and cornwall the area reps have agreed to stall the introduction of early starts until feb 2nd as fpr the last few weeks our doms have been asking us our preference for sats and have really tried discouraging us by stating that the lorry times wont change but quite a considerable number of members have stated that they wish to revert and typical RM they suddenly realised that loads of mail could/will fail either our last lorry being left for monday or mass cutoffs on sats
now that the lorries might get here earlier some guys have regretted staying at there new times can they change there minds and if a indiviual circumstances change in say 6 months time can they change there decision then
as its not clear in the agreement
