Job share

Post by ihatedogs »

Do RM offer job share? Anyone done this? I'm knocking on a bit and considering cutting my work hours.
Did consider dropping to PT hours but, generally speaking, this still requires working five days a week. A jobshare could, theoretically, mean three days one week and two days the next. A much better working pattern from a life/work balance point of view.
Anyway, share your (hopefully positive) stories.

There are some about but they do not like them usually. It's usually a 3 day week and you do Mon-Wed week 1 and then Thu-Sat week 2 so it basically works out as a week on and a week off. Ask your manager but would probably need to find some one keen on doing it with you

Good to here they do exist. I'm early in my thinking/planning of this but I'm thinking of approaching the part timers. My thinking is that those that don't do OT would like the extra days off, those that do OT would have more opportunities for extra hours and the gaffer would, possibly, appreciate the extra availability of his part timer. All theoretical at this point.

There was quite a few who used to do it at my office when I first started but as they left it just seemed to phase out but there is a couple at my office who do it at the moment but both are nearing retirement. They are still wanting to work just less days and they enjoy it. Couple more still waiting on it though despite been promised it several months ago though. Think management do not like it because when some one has a week off they see it as harder to cover but not sure why and on the plus side when they are there then that rounds is covered all six days also

Yeah, I do think that might be the biggest hurdle. As well as the part timers, think I might approach the guys with only a few years left.
