a question for you - would you be surprised to learn that our current absence - appears higher than it was during the pandemic - does that make sense to you.....?

from a customer point of view - there is no sympathy anymore - our customers expect pre-COVID quality in a COVID world - on masks we have said the team can decide - I have decided to wear mine in public / enclosed spaces..

this is why they expect it (customers) - they are at home and need their parcels - life is not always fair - it just is what it is - so lets work together to give the customers what we need - and figure out how we get as many of the team as possible back to work - we need "all hands on deck"...

we can see a small up tick in COVID related absence over the last six weeks - but overall it is still very small - accepting we have had some outbreaks in a small number of places.....

Has he considered the absences aren’t always due to covid? How many are off with mental health problems due to unachievable workloads and bullying in the workplace? Musculoskeletal issues?

Who would have thought with Packets and Parcels having doubled in the last 2 years thanks to the Pandemic and the closure of many High Street Retailers and Royal Mail trying to operate with less staff than before and a shorter working week with a largely older workforce would cause sickness problems I am literally gobsmacked. Then throw in a CEO who basically sends a letter out telling staff to work harder whilst also freeing Managers from Paperwork allowing them the time to "encourage" the newer weaker members of staff to work harder for longer with less financial reward for doing so

Maybe the crippling work loads being inflicted on posties.. might have an impact on high sick levels..

The other day I heard him compared to the villain off Austin Powers… maybe he should ask himself why people are going off work with work related stress/anxiety/depression and they are the ones that are brave enough to do so.

Anyone that’s been lucky enough to test positive, have definitely been in no rush to come back to work, fingers crossed I’ll catch around the 1st week of December, which should take me well into the new year

I think this will get very interesting very quickly. He’s pushing and pushing, telling us to do more, telling people to get back to work, making us jump through more hoops, putting more on us while removing work from managers.

Each day more goodwill is gone. So apart from the overtime kings I don’t really know who he’s expecting to do all the excess work in the coming weeks when another chunk of posties decide they’ve had enough and are working to time. I wonder if he’ll try and buy goodwill with a carrot....or is he going to use the stick which would probably end up with even more going off sick.

We've been picking up the slack for nearly 2 years now we needed all hands on deck for those 2 years but you took the money and did f*** all about it.
Yeah just pick up the slack more more more you cant have a pay rise we need more more more.

Exactly, it's more more more , all the time , moving the goal posts back , fair enough the company wants to grow and expand but you shouldn't need to exhaust and tire out your work force in doing so. I've been in two years , cannot see me stayin in for another two years. Gonna see how next year goes , but job searching and lookin for other options already.

The ones that did come back were soon absent again, when they realised what the rest had to endure over the last 18 months and now they can't cope.

Yes it does make sense - for the reasons explained by my esteemed colleagues above. It's simple, Simon. If you need "all hands on deck", then recruit more. Don't pressurise the poor Posties who've had to go on the sick. Some of them may be suffering work related mental health issues.
